Okay everybody.
I saw in a German forum a thread quastioning this.
Some thing their will be birth deformities from this pairing and that you shouldn´t breed them.
If I remember right someone once told me he had no Problem with that(don´t ask me whom it was I can´t remember, thats why I started this thread).

Is it bad to pair E*E or is their no Problem? Has anyone had testbreedings like this?

I know that in snakes some of the same genes can be lethal when mixed.
Though I can't confirm if this is the case with leos.

I think they should only be outcrossed at this point. Outcrossing will strengthen the bloodline, and may even eliminate the weird behavior that a small percentage of Enigmas exhibit. Not to mention that outcrossing makes some of the most beautiful geckos we've ever seen!

thanks for your opinions and Jason I´ve seen an afghanicus cross that was awsome :) I want an afghanicus female haha.

Well but as said I hope their are some ppl that can provide infos about that breeding if they had success or if it was a total desaster.

I have bred Enigma to Enigma and have not noticed any significant difference in the offspring as opposed to breeding Enigma to non Enigma. That being said, I do think it is prudent for breeders to outcross at this point, until we know more with regards to what is going on biologically and genetically.

I got two Afghanicus females from Alberto recently. They're really cool leos! I've got to get one of them eating better though. I think she's just shy, and maybe she didn't dig being shipped from New York to California.

I had the two separated by a tub divider, but paulnj said his Afghanicus do better in groups, so I've got them together now. So far I don't think they've interacted at all. One is staying in the moist hide and the other is under the paper towel. I pulled her out and she went for the dry hide. I put a mealworm in front of her, she sniffed it and went back in the hide. Now I think she's under the paper towel again, so I guess she likes it there. I'll try crickets tonight.

I was gona say that i read that KelliH has bred Enigma x Enigma with no ill affect. The biggest NO! NO! ofcourse is not too breed two spinners together.Second NO! NO! do not inbreed Enigmas to any direct related blood as there no need being a dominant trait.Only breed urelated stock there's enough Enigmas about these days to no even consider inbreeding. At one point Enigma x Enigma needs to be done more often or we won't get the (Double Factor)Enigmas. So won't learn or not wheather or not that (DF)Enigmas are fact or not.As (Single Factor)Enigma x (Single Factor)Enigma by right should give 25%Normal,50%(SF)Enigma,25%(DF)Enigma.So this breeding needs doing at some point so we know what where doing.

I'm in totall agreeance with KelliH no need to out cross till further research is done.

Jason, my afghanicus live in pairs and trios. When I had to relocate my geckos and downsize my racks to do so roughly 6 weeks ago, 8 lived in a 32 qt for a week, while the rest were in trios with one sold pair living together(yes, I have a few afghanicus :main_laugh: )

They are doing good in trios for me, but if you are having issues you think are negative, I would seperate them.
