Hi,

I don't have any leos yet, and I'm about to purchase a 20 gal long glass cage. I wanted to know if the cages with sliding glass doors were more convenient and less intrusive for the leo than the normal terriariums that open from the top? Or is it about the same difference?
thanks,

erica

It dosent make much difference unless you have them on really tight sheving or something. They do make it easyer to get them out though. Plus they are much nicer...

not really....I raise them in racks.....(tubs)....but I do have my favorites in my gameroom.........with the open top.......sliding doors cost way to much imo

Those are designed mostly for folks who stack their enclosers.

Yes, they are very convenient, esp. if your tank is on a high table
or shelf and it's hard to reach the top.

One thing to keep in mind, it's very easy to forget to close the door all the way, so consider a lock.

Also, the Visionarium brand has it's door designed so it goes all the way to the floor. This means that when you open it, crickets or your pet can make a quick dash for it, and if you have a thick layer of substrate, it will fall out.
Also, be aware the floor on that model is plastic and has ridges under it preventing the use of any UTH over 6'' wide.

Others make much better front open tanks, like Protean Terrarium.

I have mostly front opening tanks. I have 2 sliding door ones, one is a visionarium and the other is from glasscages.com. I'm actually happier with my front opening tanks from glasscages.com. I keep my cages on shelf units and I really like being able to reach the geckos "face to face" rather than from above.

thanks for the info. I was worried about having to reach above my gecko to get to him. Is your's the 20 gal granite acrylic from glass cages?

Thanks, I didn't consider the crickets and gecko escaping! But I think I still like the front approach. Thanks for the info about the visionariums, I'm not going to get it. I've seen the 20 gal slider from glasscages.com. I'll check out the Protean Terrariums, thanks !

I have simpler sliding front from glass cages which looks more like the plain sliding front on that page of their website. At the time it was $50. I do have to be careful when opening the front about geckos and crickets escaping, moreso with the crickets, but it hasn't been a big problem.
