I have a raptor male that I plan on breeding to an enigma 100% het. raptor female. (Thanks to country gecko for the female.)

So I should get 50/50 raptors?

But I really don't understand how the enigma thing works at all. How do predict, if I can, the outcome?

Raptor X het Raptor = 50% raptor, 50% het raptor

Enigma is Dominant, so 50% of your offspring should be enigma. This works out to:

25% Nova(raptor enigma)
25% enigma het raptor
25% raptor
25% het raptor

I did the punnetts square for the raptor vs. het raptor thing, so I got 50% raptor right. But do you do another square for the enigma, or can you make a bigger square?

Enigmas don't really fit in a punnett square because its a dominant trait and you won't get "het" enigmas. Basically when one parent is enigma, half off the offspring will be enigma. So half your babies from the raptor pairing will be raptor, half will be het raptor, split these in two and half will be enigma raptor(nova) and half will be enigma het raptor.

Yes it does fit. Yes you can have Het. enigmas... MOST of the enigmas we have are heterozygous enigmas. A gecko is heterozygous for a gene when two different alleles occupy the same position on the chromosoms.

Yeah, total brain fart on my part, I don't work with raptors, so I'm not as familiar with the crazy offshoots you can get. My bad.

I suppose I should have been more specific. What I was getting at is that because enigma is a dominant trait, there's only pheotype "hets" as in no non-visual het enigmas, and therefore no way to tell visually the difference between a one copy enigma and a homozygous enigma(no "super" form). Therefore any offspring that are not visual enigmas aren't going to produce enigma offspring.

Gazz, those are all the combinations? So I have a one in twentyfour chance of a NOVA? Kinda slim odds, but I guess there's a variety of looks possible, even if it's undoing all the work that went into the previous breedings. Now I definitely don't think I will be able to identify the babies...
