I've noticed a slower growth rate in the last year with a lot of geckos. I'm pretty sure the mealworm situation had something to do with it. That being said, some geckos are just smaller than others. There's nothing wrong with them! I think he's one of the prettiest Reverse Stripes I've seen.

Glad to hear that his size isn't all that unusual at all. :)

Here are two of my other leos. The first one is my PRS female who is the same age as my RS and is in shed right now (she's normally a very bright tang). The second one is a high yellow male that is a year older than both of them and was a __co pickup - my very first leo! :sweetheart: That's the same pen that I placed beside my RS in the earlier pictures.

I think his coloration is really unique too, Paul. I don't know why he "bleached out" as light as he did. I originally bought him to breed him but never put him in with the girls out of concerns that he was too small. Do you think that he might have difficulty breeding with his size?

Really special dude you got there!

Paul (NJ), has a ''dwarf'' Bell I hatched in 2006, but it's not as teeny as your guy...

I would try to pass on his features, if possible.

I don’t think that would be the best idea to have a “mini” morph. Females less than 45 grams can have trouble passing eggs. I don’t think breeding them to be small would be that great of an idea.

Lol I have one that's just about that size, but she's higher than 50 grams. She's been bred before, not %100 hatch rate at all lol.

he's simply beautiful!

Don't worry, even small males can breed with big females, so he won't encounter any problems. He's such a handsome guy. Never seen a Reverse Stripe this color.

He's awesome looking-I really like the coloring and rev. stripe. He could just be a small gecko, it happens. I also agree with Mel-if you have been feeding mealies, they could have contributed to the problem, but if your others have been eating them too and are fine, then I'm not sure. I'd say he's just small/average. Remember though, we used to think 35-45 gram was normal for a gecko until we started breeding them bigger.

The result could end up having smaller eggs.

I bred a 13 month old 46 gram (thick body and tail) female and produced a 85 gram 11 month old animal from it ;)

If we breed them to be smaller, and the eggs are smaller, then I see no problem with it. It would be an interesting project, if somebody did try to purse it! If they eggs, aren’t as big that is…

I have been feeding a mix of mealies and superworms, with an occasional waxworm. I also just got some Dubias and will be adding that to the diet as soon as my colony is established.

The mealies I'm feeding are ones I have grown and maintained throughout the crisis - no new introductions since it happened. I'm sure they're pretty inbred right now, but I didn't want to add more to them until I was sure all the kinks had been worked out of the "system."

Thanks for all the great replies guys! :)

What an awesome gecko! There's nothing wrong with that gecko IMO. He's perfect in every way. I have a 5 year old male that's about the same size as he. I just think were all used to the behemoths that we've bred for.

Hmmm... I'd like to know what his weight is. BOTH of his parents were huge. His father weighed a little over 100 grams, and mother in the upper 80's. I think he is absolutely gorgeous!
