So im turning a red bull frig into an incubator I was gonna buy a frig incubator but I got this for free and I can set it up for about 60 bucks and it will hold 16 cups. just wanted to get some opinions on how or if the way im going to try it would work ok. I was thinking of just using a thermostat with heat tape on the bottom or walls and hang the thermometer in the middle to get the air temp.does this sound like this would work well.

I like back heat in fridge bators. Putting it on the bottom tends to make the temp variable between the top and bottom of the fridge. I'd also recommend installing a small fan for air circulation, computer fans work well. Put the thermo probe in the middle of the fridge and thermometer placement sounds good. Be sure to give it a few days to test before putting eggs in it.

What Ted stated is what I do as well but I have bottom heat. I use a DC computer fan with my fridge incubator and it keeps the bottom and top shelf within a 1/2 degree.

I was thinking of tuning the tape on the sides and bottom to get a more even heat.the back of the frig is on an angle so it might through the heat off on the top being further from the cups.so is the fan used to help keep a more constant same temp through out the frig? When using a fan is it dc or ac power? Does the fan run constantly or do u wire it up to the thermostat to kick on with the heat? Thanks for the response

The fan circulates air throughout the bator to evenly distribute heat. Most PC fans can be rigged to DC or AC. Normally I just run the fan 24/7 but it will work on the thermo if you use an on/off model.

I also run my fan constantly. My bottom heat tape does go up the sides about 6 inches but that is it.

Computer AC fans require that you get an AC adapter. Like one that you use to charge cells phones and etc. They can burn up with the incorrect power being supplied. A DC can be wired directly using an extension cord without any type of adapter needed.
