Has anyone used this "Reptaid" for their geckos? If so what did you think of it? I was thinking about getting some to have on hand, but I would like some opinions first. Thanks

Yup...works wonders :) My first leo (years ago) had an eye infection and couldn't see out of her eye for a while. I was recommended to using reptiaid while her eye was being treated and it worked amazingly. I used it on another leo of mine who had randomly gone of food for about a month. It stressed her out a lot so I only gave it to her a few times a week but she has recovered now and eats like a champ. I always keep some on my reptile shelf now.

I swear by it. It's cleared up instances of mouth rot, tail infections, eye infections, promoted faster healing from tail drops, and stimulated appetites in my picky eaters. It really is a lifesaver.

Reptaid XL

Hi,

Is it safe to use Reptaid XL ( instead of Reptaid ) on Leos and AFTs?
It is stated for use on animals 250gms and above.

Worry that the higher concentration might cause side effects.
or
Higher concentration will help clear up things faster. ( price aside )

Thanks!

Regards,
Jackson

Do you think it is worth the risk to find out? Personally, I would never even consider this. There are bottles of both formulas in our fridge because it's a good product. If you send an email to the company, Elliot is good about answering questions.

What exactly is this Reptaid stuff? How come it works so well? The company makes some pretty major claims...

I'm really not into holistic-type medicine, but if it's working for so many folks, i'm interested in what makes it so great...

I have a bottle of Reptaid in my fridge ( i had to see first hand what all the commotion was about ;) ), it has worked on some geckos with parasites but has done nothing to other.. nothing beats Fenbendazole..

One thing about Reptaid is that it can be stressful on the animal.. it has to be given medication orally for 10 days, then 2 days off, followed by another 10 days. I dont know about anyone else, but my geckos dont just open their mouths and allow me to insert the syringe.. so i do have to hold them firmly and get them to open their mouths...

Reptaid Ingredients (straight from www.reptaid.com) :

Olive Leaf - Helps keep colds and flu at bay, supports immune system, high in antioxidants. Olive Leaf is an excellent anti-microbial that will kill viruses and bacteria.

Mustard Seed - Used in fevers, colds and influenza. Helps move acute conditions from the body more quickly.

Black Seed - An overall tonic herb known for its effects on the respiratory system, stomach and intestinal tract, kidney and liver, and the circulatory and immune system.

Pau D’arco - South American herb that is used for parasites and fungus. Also used for dry cough, anti-inflammatory and blood cleansing. We also use this herb for it’s anti-bacterial properties. Large doses or continued use of this product can cause miscarriage in pregnant animals.

Cloves - To rid the body of any microscopic parasites and soothes the intestinal tract. Strong disinfecting action.

Grapefruit Seed Extract – Used as a parasitic for small parasites. Has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties. For more information go to www.biochemresearch.com.

Alcohol - To bring out the properties in the herbs and preserve the tincture.

Distilled Water.

I agree with the stress level of syringing it into the gecko's open mouth. Ugh. What I do is mix twice as much with a little squirt of water and pipette drop it on the animal's nose. They lick about half of what's given, so that's the correct amount, and much less stress. Also, they are placed in an empty 15qt tub so can't hide from me during this process. Any new gecko I bring home gets it for 3 days right off the bat. It gets them pooping and eating without any issues. I've used both formulas on different species with some success, some failures, for various ailments. I trust our vet, and like him and his wife very much, there is no hesitation to get meds from him when needed.

I would not use either this product or the slurry until you have a vet look at the gecko. Keep in mind that this is the time of year many geckos lose interest in food because of the shorter daylight hours and cooler temperatures. If you gecko is not losing any weight, I would try not to worry too much just yet.

Golden gate: thank you for your response, he is looking skinny but not too skinny. Probably hasn't eaten in a month.

Vet first thats for sure. Its in my experince that if its questionable, then no harm will come by having him checked out(unless your vets a nut and trys some unessasary treatment)
