Does she breed? That would be a big relief if she does.

She is too young to breed as of now, she's only 5 months old.. But Morph (Kenny) has her now and plans to breed her when she is of age :)

I couldn't see anything on my hatchings. Probably they are too small, being 6 and 3 days old. For those of you whose worked, how old are your geckos.

while the technique sounds simple i guess there are difficulties visualizing the vessels if the male is near to everting his hemipenes because of stress. it may be important for the animal to be relaxed and that may be difficult with some animals. the light source most likely *has* to be a point source, i.e. single-led flashlight.

even using the flashlight on a known male hatchling, the angles have to be right to see the vessels. when you DO see them, there's no doubt.

just like popping hemipenes with snakes, some people are more adept at it than others. to keep the animal calmer it might be a good idea to let it crawl into a clear plastic tube that it just fits into and then manipulate it.

has anyone else had any success?

Well I just hatched a temp sex male yesterday, I’ve left him in the cooker, but I’ll try to snap a pic in a little bit, and post it, and see what we come up with.

After reading this I grabbed a mini mag and went and did all my geckos. You are for sure right about a gecko that is stressed not working as well. My 14g blizzard freaked out, bit me and then eliminated. It did work however on the others. I now know I have 9 males and only 4 females :(

That is realy awsome!
I must try and check my babies!!!
THANK YOU

This could also work on other speciments like milli ore levis but that would also mean that unsexed milli and stuff like that will no longer be pos. females...... and that´s for sure.

I´ve tested it right now and I have a question.
I lend me a pic from you (ElapidSVT) I hope it´s okay:

I´ve seen deep red lines at the marked point but not at the point where the bulges maybe if he/she is older.
Does that mean she`s a he?

I have a question too.. How many vessels are there? Are we looking for a big vein, or what? I have tried this and didn't see much on most of the geckos I tried (probably not getting the light at the right angle), but on one gecko in particular, I saw a vein that ran from his vent, all the way through his tail and everything.. is that what I am supposed to look for?

I candle from the side so I don´t have to see directly in the light. I´ve ordered a solitaire mag now so that I have a smaller lightpoint(maybe a led lenser would be better?)
So far I haven´t seen male parts on my geckos except the question before:)

both males and females have the veins that encircle the vent and that goes through the center of the tail. the males have the two veins, one supplying blood to each hemipene. it is a large vessel with some branching at the terminal end from what i can tell. when lit just right it appears the two hemipenal vessels are connected forming a boxy 'U' shaped formation.

a single point-source LED is going to be the best way to visualize the structures so far as i can ascertain.

glad to hear that it appears this method will be helpful!

Yeah, none of my geckos really cooperate, they all just give little grunting noises lol, it's pretty cute. My flashlight isn't strong enough to illuminate their bodies enough through the deli-cup either.. I'll just have to get a new one

I can see the main vein clearly in my 7 geckos from 1 to 5 month of age, but it's hard to see something elce... the older is gecko - the harder to see something at all, so I guess it works only with hatchlings. Two of my little ones are visible males, the others I'm not sure

Ok, so I did this. Not to a hatchling, but to my baby gecko, Blazer.

Anyhow, when I did this, I saw two small balls (for lack of a better term) that had seperate veins going to them, that eventaully connected, making a v like thing. Is this what you would find in a male?!

I guess I'm just having a hard time understanding what I should be seeing.

From what I tested my 2 DS should be males but I don´t think so. I will have the 90% sure male version of a babygecko in a few weeks from my male incubator so I may see the difference.
