She's too small for this!

Okay, it looks like we figured out why she has eggs: the snow blizzard next door has been scaling the divider and romancing her when we're not looking.

I can already see another set developing. I'm so frustrated.

Poor little girl has lost weight...she's only about 20g now. How do I make sure she keeps what little weight she has on? What's the best feeder?

We're supplying her with liquid calcium in addition to the cap in her cage. We've removed the bothersome neighbor and gave her a laybox.

Any other suggestions?

I actually had a 36g virgin drop an infertile last nyte. It happens every now and then.

Since you removed the male and shes still eating I'd just keep cramming as much food into her as possible. lol And plenty of calcium. Supers are another good way to put on weight if you gutload them well. I'm sure she'll be fine.

Good Luck.

I'd add LOTS of wax worms to her diet. Dust them and feed her like crazy. I know they're not the best nutritionally but are high in fat for her. Mix in some crickets too. I'd be careful on how much calcium you add because if shes small she could get egg bound....Darn horney lil boogers!

Little bit of an update:
Belle ate a LOT yesterday. She had two crix, three mealies, and several peices of a F/T pinky--all dusted. She gobbled it all down. She's a little sluggish today and her belly is absolutely huge. The eggs look like they're about ready to come out, so I'm hoping she passes them well.

Check out how huge her belly is--and how small the tail is.. :(

Sorry about your little girl at least she's trying her best to pull through and still has her appetite. I personally would stick to roaches and superworms I used this combo and my geckos nearly doubled in size, but as long as she's constantly eating I think she should be able to pull through. I'd be scared if she gave up on food.

Thanks, Liz. I'm trying to convince my sister that roaches are the best feeder right now. She's still a little grossed out by them and I'm only home for another two weeks so it's usually up to her to feed them. We'll get some soon, though. Gotta get some weight on this girl..

Show her some babies then she'll get all Awww and some 12 inch tweezers and your good to go, lol. And in that picture she looks adorable. I've seen some really bad pictures of geckos that still pulled through so I think yours has a good chance but just keep an eye on those eggs.

I hope I brought enough appropriately sized Dubia nymphs for her Khrysty.

Also, looks like we're in the same boat, small-gravid-female-wise.

My Laurel last year was laying eggs (though not fertilized). Same situation. She got really super skinny, the poor thing. I fed her 1-3 of the largest nymphs/ just-shed adult males a day and she would pull back up again weight wise.

She will probably be fine... but...

I would keep a close eye on her- keep her in your bedroom at night and be with her as much as possible. With signs of straining (squawking/screaming, posturing unproductively, egg appearing in the cloaca and then disappearing) she may well be egg-bound and certainly needs some vet attention and some oxytocin. Definitely make sure your vet has oxytocin in their clinic and knows the proper egg-binding procedure. And ideally can spay her if needed. Laurel ended up with two giant eggs adhesed to her insides. She would have died without the surgery.

try giving her 4 or 5 wax worm after you feed her a couple of crickets. Dont only feed her wax worms, but a couple after each feeding as desert. Im not sure if you have any males at your place, but if you do if you were to hold a male and then hold the female without washing your hands just from the sent of a male it could trigger egg production. She could very well reabsorb the eggs it is still possible. The eggs dont calcify untill she is about to lay them and on the way out is when they calcify. At 36 grams it is really to small to breed, but it should not be a problem. They are usually able to star reproducing at 30-35 grams. There is a bigger chance that something could happen at that size. I had a female that my little brother put in the wrong cage with a male. she was only 30 grams , when she tried to lay the egg it broke inside of her, and i had to put her down, but the male matted with her and they were fertile eggs. If they are infertile they might be easier to lay cause sometimes they are not hard they are softer almost like a beachball that is a little deflated. In your case i think you should be ok, but keep an eye on her. Feedin a few wax worms will help beef her up a bit

These are likely fertile. We've pretty much realized that the male that lived next to her was able to climb the divider and had been doing so for some time. We now have them in entirely separate enclosures.

She hasn't been gaining weight, but she's stopped losing. We're feeding her crix, dubia roaches, and mealworms at the moment. She should be laying any day now, actually. So we'll see how it goes

I'll keep you all updated. As of right now, she's spent the last 2-3 days in her laybox. Still eating, no digging yet. No signs of stress, either.

Little one hasn't laid yet, and she's got me antsy. She's gone off feed. She spends the day in her lay box. If she's disturbed she wanders the tub like a crazy person and tries to scale the sides. When she eventually settles down, it's in her lay box not any of the other hides.

The eggs are so visible now it looks like they're about bursting out of her little belly. Has to be any day now. I don't want to worry, but I can't help it. Poor little girl :(

Picture update

She's just huge now. I can already see another clutch developing, too. Poor girl is in for a rough season. Her tail looks so small compared to her huge belly.

Belle doesn't mind being held, still, though. So that's good, I guess. I had to clean her cage so I had her out. Decided to take some pictures while I'm at it.

When do you think she'll be laying? Is there anything I can do for her? She's not eating, but I think she probably will once she lays. If she CAN lay.

I had something very similar happen last summer. My girl was just a few grams heavier than yours. (Had been weighing weekly because she was bought to be part of a breeding group.) She had NO contact with a male, but I had males in the same room, so I suppose that's what triggered it. I sat, biting my nails until one day she laid two small eggs. She lost a bit of weight during the process but otherwise was fine. Certainly gave me a heart attack though. GOOD LUCK!

My girls go off their food close to laying. Yours looks really close, I'd say within the week. You could soak her in warm water. It's always super scary as gecko moms to watch and wait for them to pop. I'd limit her handling, if you're doing it at all aside from photo-ops. The less stress, the better.
