Great . Your one of those people that know about sand and what it can do but don't care. If your Geckos get Sand Impactation I will be the 1st to say I told you so.

What he means is that if he feeds mealworms, would the gecko not have as great a risk of impaction as it would with crickets and diving after them? He isn't saying he doesn't care, just asking a question. Don't be quick to assume, because the way people word stuff isn't necessarily what they mean. IDC that I'm younger than you, just read between the lines next time ;).

geckos will eat the sand even if there is no food crawling around on it. They will test it. Every lizard I have ever kept has done this. So its always possible that they will get impacted if kept with sand.
Just because its previous owners kept it in sand and it didnt get impacted doesnt mean it wont eventualy happen eventualy.
Best bet is to just keep them without sand. If you want a pretty looking substrate go with a nice tile like slate or terracota. Looks pretty and much much easier to clean then dealing with sand.

If the mealworms, king worms whatever get in the sand and the leopard geckos gets them, the gecko will still get sand in its mouth and indigest it.
I did read between the lines.

You should ask him how hw feeds: out of the house? hand feeding? dish feeding? ask first, you sounded very mean and accusing with what you said to him.

I agree with John. But I won't preach to you guys. All I can say is look up Sand in the Search Feature or Impaction. And you guys should get all the answers you need.

Well I`m am trying to be reasonable, and keep this forum the way it should be, Mature. I do agree with John on ALL of his reasons, but again I`m not going to waste my time typing out common facts.

Reading this forum and witnessing my leos "taste test" the sand is what made me switch to tile ASAP. Tell me why should I take the risk for the sake of aesthetics? Sand is hella messy, anyway, and has to be replenished as the crickets and leos poop in it. Tile can simply be wiped clean. Also, the dust from fine sand can be unhealthy to humans, with the potential to cause respiratory problems, including cancer. Why take that risk?

Anyway, those are cool looking leos.
