If it is not to much trouble could anyone post pictures of lay boxes, and if you have made a homemade incubator could you post pictures of that, or just tell me how to set them up, I only have three geckos and if there is an easy way to make an incubator i would like to know how. thanks

Here are one of our incubators... Made from a wine fridge, 11 inch heat tape and a proportional thermostat... The temps are rediculously stable... Since using these types of incubators with the addition of my own style of incubation container, hatch rates have been through the roof... This particular incubator holds up to 24 mid sized incubation containers..

My lay box is pretty simple... just a cheap Tupperware container with a hole cut in the side and duct tape to keep edges from scratching them :) The lay material is sphagnum peat moss found at walmart. Some people prefer to cut the hole in the top of the box so they won't kick out all the dirt...but I don't mind it. I know she's going to lay when there's a big pile of dirt outside the box :main_yes:

Gregg,
I've read you mention a few times that you designed your own incubating box...could you describe it or post some pics? I'm curious

thank for the replies, has anyone made a simple smaller incubator, i wont have that many eggs

I dont have a pic because I'm not home, but my incubator is made out of an Igloo plastic cooler, 4 inches of water, a fish tank heater, a plastic sweater box, two bricks, and a digital thermometer with a probe.

You fill the cooler with the 4 inches of water and attach the submersible heater to the bottom.

Lay both bricks at the bottom so that they're partially out of the water, and put the sweater box on them.

Fill the sweater box halfway with your incubation medium (i use moistened perlite) and lay the probe on top of the medium. I velcroed the readout to the front of the cooler so I can see it easily.

There's no need for a lid because the container holds enough humidity.

Another variation of this, that most people use, is a styrofoam cooler found at most bait shops.

It works really well for me and the only thing I had to buy was the thermometer ($20) and the heater ($15)

ok thanks that sounds easy enough to make, where do i find perlite?

Anywhere you find gardening supplies, a hardware store, perhaps? I'm not sure. I ordered mine offline. You just need to make sure it has no added chemicals (like Miracle Gro) and that you wash it really good to get rid of the dust before you use it.

I have a really cheap incubator.

I have a styrofoam cooler box, a large heat pad on the inside at the bottom which is controlled by a thermostat (a rheostat would work too), on top of the heat pad is a tupperware container of water. I got a small wire rack shelf from target and I have the deli cup which houses the eggs on that. I have the thermostat probe and the thermometer probe on the shelf.

I just use a Hovabator. No DIY stuff for me!
And if you've seen one hovabator, you've seen them all.

When I open to air out the eggs, I'll probably snap some quick shots. But they're not due to be opened for like, 4-5 days.

I'd snap a shot of my lay box, but I'm pretty sure I have a female in there working it right now, so I don't want to disturb her.:D

Here is a link to the thread Gregg posted about the incubation boxes, but...

Gregg, the picture links are broke. Can you post valid links in that thread again? Or maybe you can provide them here?
