..........but we had to put our two and a half year old Siamese cat Squirt to sleep this Saturday. :main_no: What presented initially as asthma at our regular vet's didn't respond to treatment, and his breathing became more and more labored no matter what treatment was administered. We ended up taking (after our first vet said that they didn't have overnight care and we would have to take him to the 24 hour clinic if he was to stand a chance) him to the emergency vet, who also did x-rays and told us the outlook was grim, as it was looking more and more like heart failure. We agreed to 24 hours of care (just in case) and wanted to see him before we left. After we saw him, his breathing was worse than when we'd rushed him to the emergency clinic an hour earlier, even though he was in an oxygen cage. He was gasping for air, could no longer meow........I knew he would die that night alone if we didn't euthanize him. I got to hold him while they administered the drugs, and my husband held me and pet the cat............what a really crummy Saturday that was.
One of the hardest things was telling our kids..........it was their cat (as in the only cat that slept with them, and clearly loved them the most.) These are the times that owning pets really bites.
Anyhow, RIP Squirt.
