It feels like our babies are growing so slow. I want them to be big now! lol. Does anyone else feel this way? It seems like it's taking them forever to hit 20 grams.

I usually had them grow to 20 grams.. and then slow down for a while.. only growing a few grams here and there.. and then they burst to the 40 grams range shortly after.. Geckos are weird. :p

I noticed that all of our babies have grown a lot slower this season than they have in previous years. I think it's lingering affects of the whole mealworm fiasco.

All have mine have reached breeding size, or have gotten close to it, within 4-5 months of hatching.

I've had such an incredible variety in speed of growth, even among clutchmates. It seems that different geckos not only have different metabolisms but also different inclinations to eat mealworms. I had 2 hatchlings that hatched at exactly the same time. After first shed (they were housed separately and were clutchmates) I put 3 mealworms in each tub. One gecko gobbled down every one right away and I had to give it more; the other ate 1 mealworm. Last week when I weighed them for sale (they were about 7 weeks old at the time), one was 21 grams and 1 was 14 grams. I have a SS that I'm keeping that was born 4 days before them who is only 8 grams. Go figure.

Ours too, at least all but two. For some reason our SS and it's clutchmate aren't growing as fast..? They are only at 30 grams and it seems like they have been for months

I can relate! And the prettiest ones seem to grow even slower...lol. I think it's that "watched pot" thing...you know, it doesn't boil when you're watching! :main_laugh:

The ones that we had early in the season grew at alot faster rate then the last 4 or 5 that we had at the end of the season. I keep weekly weights on everyone. I feed everyone the same. I thought maybe it had to do with them being the last clutches that the 2 females laid.

This year my babies grew pretty slow at the beginning, but are growing pretty fast now!! They are picking up weight faster than the first few. I also experimented and the ones given more space regardless if they had others with them grew faster than the ones in smaller containers. I just hope they grow fast next year :)

I have had so grow like a weed and some not grow at all...

For instance...
tremper enigma het raptor hit 65 grams in 4 months, yet the clutchmate is still 22 grams.....huh?

mack rainwaters ... 59 grams and 27 grams at 4 months.... WHAT THE!!!!

seems some grow fast and others don't just like humans, but maybe it has to do with feeders in some way?
