Hello, I was wondering if it would be ok to use Shultz Spangnum peat moss as a substrate for ball pythons??

if you don't feed in the enclousure I don't see any problems but cypress mulch is much easier overall.

Imo, I would say no. It would be great for a egg laying box, but I think you would have a problem with mold when it's wet and dust when it's dry. Shredded Aspen is a good substrate to use.

With which? The cypress or moss? Maybe you could have problems with mold
on moss but cypress is mold resistant. I use dry cypress a lot and have no problems with dust.just curious, I've never used aspen with more tropical species, does it mold at all?

I was talking about the moss. Sorry! Cypress is good too, I just have no experience with it.

Cypress would be the best substrate but is more expensive that Aspen Bed for example, I use both and work perfect. About the Spagnum moss, it would be better for a moist hide, I would use it as a full substrate for an enclosure.. best regards.

Really? I get my cypress from wal-mart at about $1 per sq. foot. You have to put it in the oven first to kill all the creepie crawlies though.
