If it's a pet, it doesn't matter what other people tell you. And to be frank, most of the big morph traits are line bred (nice way to say inbred). I think you have a very nice gecko for the price you paid.

The difference between pet store geckos and ones produced by a low scale breeder is simply the attention to quality and genetics. A lot of BIG scale breeders also sell wholesale, but without putting much effort or focus on getting TOP quality geckos since they are getting minimum dollar for them. We have a gecko from a large chain pet store and he is nothing fancy to look at but he is 130+g and just a good pet. Not everyone is able to or willing to invest in a $300+ gecko, so you are not alone and its no different then someone buying a gecko from a breeder who is breeding low quality animals. Enjoy your pet and that's all that matters.

If it's the little gecko in your avatar, it is a beauty! If you are luck enough to find a gecko like this from a pet store that is also healthy, then good for you.

In az you won't find one for $20 in a pet store. With that said the one in your avatar is beautiful, nice find. Price to me is just what one person puts on it. Some of my favorite pets have been free or close to it. Like previously stated above big chains buy from places that bulk sale these guys while private breeders have put much more time and thought in to it. If it's healthy that's what matters.

Did you buy this gecko for the purpose of reselling? Anyways, like others have said, there's nothing wrong with a pet store gecko if it's healthy, and that you are buying it as a pet.

I have pet store geckos and now just splurged to get high end geckos. I started with my pet store ones, they are a good way to get started in a hobby. (My 2 pet stores were bought in the USA) You should be proud to find a gecko like that for $20. Here in Canada, they want $85 for normals.

I think pet store geckos are fine.
But I would only buy from a store that cares for their pets properly. I wouldn't buy a leo from a store that keeps sick animals, or doesn't feed them properly etc.
I bought a leo from a local pet store over boxing weekend and I adore her.
But that being said, I wouldn't buy a pet store leo for breeding purposes. As a pet yes, but not for breeding. Unless it was a store that specialized in leopard geckos (a few stores around here vendor at the expos, so I'd buy breeding leos there), but not chain stores.

If someone is trying to say you got ripped off or that your pet is worthless, tell em to go jump in a lake. That's a nice looking gecko for a nice price and they don't know what they're talking about.

this is rango, my petstore Shtct when i got her(2weeks old)
GEDC0567.jpg

think shes worthless?

GEDC0907.jpg

tell me that now :D. Got her for $20 Shes a wonderful little girl. And so is your lil guy, im positive you will love him/her. And as stated, Line bred is basicly inbred BUT with out crossing. Petstore leos genetics are a slight mystery as we can only see the phenotype, not the genotype (please tell me i got those 2 in the right order, if not, reverse them). So despit what you see it may not be what you get when you breed them. Not to mention they are more low quality at times. Thats why a good breeder has clean genetics and can tell you the full genetics of their geckos. Aswell as their animal may possess some more high quality traits. For a pet gecko all you need is a gecko that makes you happy, unless your breeding then there is nothing wrong with the petstore geckos.

4 weeks and he ate a giant mealworm? Hats off to him! He (or she) is probably just full. :) Don't worry too much!
I think your little leo is just gorgeous, certainly not unworthy. :) Good color and weight, long tail, even pattern distribution. ;D Gah, these people with their hatred of pet store leo's. These poor babies deserve more love than they get. I have only 2 leo's, both from the same petco. The first was totally by chance, and somehow my dad said yes to me for getting her. <3 That was 7 months ago. My second baby I had to beg for but he finally gave in, I got her a month and a half ago. I got them both total for $40 with tax. Tell me THAT'S not a good deal for a SHTCTB and a Tremper Albino. <3 $15 for the SHTCTB and $23 for the tremper. :D I love them to death!
I have pics of them both in my albums.

I feel sorry for the pet store geckos.Mine came from a pet store and in one of my threads there is a before and after picture. She really grew up to be a nice looking gecko! The same pet store I bought her from though does not get my business much anymore. Now they are keeping at least ten geckos in the same tank! When I got Luigia it was a new shipment and was split up over multiple tanks. Now they all look sickly. But many people here have pet store geckos and are an example that not all of them turn out sick or dead:)
