I really want to buy a 20 gallon long and get a second gecko but I thought mine was a female and my friend looked at it and said It might be a male so I want to wait til I know for sure then get a second

Pet store geckos are fine for just pets. I personally won't buy one from a chain store. I've never been to one where all the reptiles look healthy. Buying one just brings the demand for them to get more. I would possibly buy from a reptile store, but it depends on the health and if the owner knew the genetics. I wouldn't want to breed one because I wouldn't know if there were unknown hets.

Enjoy your pet. It looks healthy right now and it's also very pretty.

This is a really great gecko! I would say that I don't think it would matter much because it was bred by someone. As long as you thought it would look healthy and it looked cool. Thats my opinion.

I have two store boughts and both are amazing. One I got for free because he lost part of his tail during his stay at the store and is otherwise totally healthy. He has awesome colors and bands and his eyes are thoughtful and bright :)

The other one on the other hand, is a beast. Its not a day under 7 months and it has the fattest tail and best appetite of any of my geckos. Not to mention he's already LITERALLY becoming a handful. It feels like I'm holding a small dragon :p

I have two Petco geckos. My high yellow that got me back into Leos. Just a sweet heart of a pet very friendly. I picked up a wonderful little Murphy's a couple weeks ago from the same store. So far I have to say for just a true pet Leo the store ones seem to be great.

The ones I will eventually breed are a different story. When I breed them I want to know EXACTLY what they are, and will pay the extra cost to know what they are. I am sure I drove Eve and Travis crazy with my questions.

i would agree, if you are happy with your new pet then thats all that matters. i just recently bought this gecko for $19.99 at a pet store near my house and im very happy with her.

I think your Leo is adorable! I bought mine from PetsMart. I was told it is a normal, but I don't care what it is, I love that little creature! It is my first Leo, and I have fallen in love with them! So as long as your happy who cares what anyone else thinks or says.

A lot of "haters" don't know where most petstores get their leopard geckos.
A lot of breeders sell their geckos to petstores at wholesale price.

Looks like you got a great deal! I have an 18 year old gecko that came from a pet store...18 years ago :) Wow that makes me feel old, I remember the day I picked him up, lol. He has been one of the healthiest, largest geckos I have ever owned. I don't buy any of my breeder geckos from chain pet stores, primarily because I am focused on breeding "high quality" geckos. That doesn't mean you can't get a "high quality" gecko from a pet store, but if you are going to breed them it's best to know exactly what their breeder and line/genetic background is. Also, I would suggest keeping him/her alone for a few months to be sure it thrives.

These are all Petsmart babies. I wouldn't trade them for the world. I agree as far as breeding they aren't choice. But as pets they are perfect.
