strange disease killing babies

In the last week i've witnessed the death of two of my baby leopard geckos via a very strange disease. First it makes it very hard for the animal to walk. Then, you pick it up to see if it's alright and it has a deadly episode that looks like a seizure... It is in no way related to mbd, i dust all their feeders with repcal with d3 and add herptivite once a week. if anyone has any information on how to cure/prevent this it would be greatly appreciated. At least two others that i'm very happy with are showing symptoms.

I had the same thing happen to me twice. One last year and one this year. But last year she died and this year the baby lived at looks fine now. I hatched out last years baby that died but not this years baby. Not sure why or what really is happening to them and was the first time I have seen it. I didn't know others have witnessed the same thing. My conditions are optimal and consistent with all other babies so I don't know what is behind the seizures. Any light on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

How long after hatching does this happen? Are they from the same pairing? There is a chance (only a chance, I'm not a vet and have very little info) that there is something neurologically wrong with them from birth that doesn't show up for a little while.

The same with me. The babies are unrelated and the first one from last year that died happened probably when it was about a month old give or take a week or so. But this last one that lived is about 2-3 months old. They are also different morphs. The first one that died was a jungle sunglow het murphy's patternless that I hatched out. The second is a Diablo blanco I got from lllreptile as a baby so im judging the age by its size so its just a guess.

the description does sound neurological. could it be something environmental causing it? i'm sorry to hear this Sol. have you considered a necropsy?

Now the baby is showing slight signs of m b d. Not sure if that is related to the seizures or not. I have only had her for about a month and a half. This is my first experience with m b d. any insight on this would be much appreciated.

It doesn't sound completely neurological. What is your incubation medium. they are developing the issue within the egg. I doubt that it is derived from the parents based on the complete developmental aspects of the babies. I would suspect a combination from high inc temps and contaminated incubation containers or substrate. JMHO

Not sure on the incubation for this baby I didn't hatch out myself. I got it from a reptile specialty store in san diego california.

the instructions say that repcal is supposed to be mixed 1:1 with herptivite and used on every feeder animal, fwiw.

calcium deficiency can cause the symptoms you're seeing. it may be that these animals cannot properly metabolize calcium or that there's a source of phosphorus that isn't being considered. since calcium metabolism is one of those things we can't select for while breeding, it's possible for the genes responsible could be lost through a combination of inbreeding and genetic drift/random mutations.

good luck!
