Stud Breeding Help

A Friend told me that he had a female that he bought from p***o a couple years back. She is obviously now an adult and she "APPEARS" to be a giant, Really long and lanky weighing over 85 grams. So he asked if i would breed her to my Giant Tremper male (118grams) because he has never been able to breed her. As a FRIEND i said yes. I have been housing, feeding, cleaning for months, i bred her to my Male and he expects me to incubate all the eggs. Then i would take care of the babies long enough for them to be all feeding regularly.

Here is the Kicker: Today he told me in return for all this I get a Pair:main_huh: a pair???? Yess a pair??? I know we should have worked out some sort of contract but as a friend i didnt think we would run into problems.

I have talked to several people who said We should split 50/50 he said No way. I gave him 3 options. We split 50/50 and i will do all the work. He gives me $50 and takes the female and IDC about the babies, number 3 he takes her home gives me $50 and he will get his $50 back when i get a pair.

I think this is more than fair, Again i didnt bother with any kind of contract because i didnt see this happening, so please spare me those comments i have heard them enough already :main_laugh::main_rolleyes: What do you all think I should do??

Id say you split them 50/50, only real fair way, of course some will look better then others, but you will end up with around the same number of geckos.

just remember, it's HIM that wants to use your male, not you wanting to use his female. if he doesn't like the deal you present him, then there's no deal and or he can go find his own male. that's ridiculous for you to have to do all the work for just a pair. i would say 50/50 or no deal.

If you are caring for his/her gecko the entire season simply so you can stud a male then you are getting the short end by far. Well your not studding a male if your caring for the female and raising the babies. You are caring and raising how ever many geckos YOU produce from that pairing. I would tell your FRIEND that you will do as you have already agreed upon but you get $30 (pays for the cost of living of the female and babies) and YOUR choice of 4 geckos. That is still more than fair considering your friends did absolutely nothing throughout the process.

After talkin to him and showed him the thread he offered me 3 babies. I have decided to just give him the female and not deal with it. Plus I have 4 other females breeding with this male that are already producing some amazing babies.

Benn I would tell him to bring you atleast 50.00 in order to pick up the female and never deal with this guy again. We spoke earlier today and as you can see the other breeders feel the same as I do about the whole deal. I would also go ahead and add him to the BOI as a shady person that wants ever thing for free just so no one else ends up in the same boat with this free loader. Just my two cents

Some how he feels that 3 babies would be fair, What if she lays 12+ eggs would it be fair for me just to get 3 and him take home 3 times as much as i did and he did no work once so ever?? I really dont understand how hard that is:main_rolleyes: If I was the one with the female 50/50 would be more than fair because without that male i would have Zero to begin with. I told him to just come get the female and it will all be over, Its really not worth arguing over a $40 female. I guess you live and you learn, Please learn from my mistake guys.

If you are doing the breeding and all of the care for all of the Leos I feel that you are entitled to half of the babies at a minimum, unless he pays you for food, housing in your racks that could provide space for your own breeding projects, and some sort of stud compensation. Needless to say, I would not do it again.

Benn, do you remember the guy i told you about when you picked up those 2 girls from me? he wanted me to do the same thing you are doing right now. he wanted me to take one of his females to breed to one of my males..I'm really REALLY glad I didn't do it after hearing what you are dealing with!

Your buddy sounds like a selfish ass. Why should you supply the male AND do all the work to give him babies?

There is so much wrong here. Never do anything with a friend before both of you agree on the details. A friend will try to take advantage of you and act like it's cool the whole time.
This is how I use to stud my pitbull and the same can apply to this. The female comes to you, they mate your buddy pays you cash for the service he takes the female home with him and you get pick of the litter.
Simple as that. I don't see how the hell he expects you to house feed the female then house and feed the babies and you only get three babies.

I could see it working like this if the babies were valuable
like $500 or more then it would work out great for you but in this situation it's just cheap leopard geckos.

This is what I would do if I were you right now. Keep the female let her finish laying all the eggs. See what hatches and keep the best looking babies. Even if it's only 3 of them keep the best ones. When she's done and the babies are ready to tell him to come over and pick em all up.
When he gets everything loaded up tell him to lose your number and never call or come over again. It sounds like your friend is young. I don't know anyone my age that would try to pull anything like that, but yet again everyone I know would make both parties sign a written agreement lol.

Sorry to hear about this but as you know now that's not a real friend as he's just taking advantage of you. You could always tell him to come get his pregnant female now and let him deal with it after he pays you a stud fee and for food..
