I used to use vermiculite in my lay boxes, but no longer can because some of the females were eating the stuff... The best advice I got was to replace the vermiculite with moss, more specifically, sphagnum moss. Well I went to PetSmart because Home Depot is too far away, and all they had was "frog moss." This is okay too, right? It says it's safe for "most" reptiles so I just want to be sure..

Oh okay we actually used to have that stuff, it was recommended by our local reptile center, but they said it was okay to use as the substrate in the whole cage.. needless to say that didn't work out so well, so we haven't gotten any more since. But I'll keep that in mind for the lay boxes, thanks :)

I like the compressed dirt that Mel recommended. I just remist every other day or so. For the most part it retains moisture well.

I use moist Coco peat or moist sand for oviposition. Incubation of the eggs in vermiculite. Works perfectly for me!
