I have a super snow that also has about 3/4" of white at the end of the tail and white front legs (back legs have some gray).

Please review for me what makes an "eclipse". According to the leopard gecko wiki it just refers to the solid eye, which can't be completely right because otherwise all Mack super snows would be eclipses by definition, right?

I was wondering the same thing! :main_yes:

What is a piebald???

Anyway, it is absolutely gorgeous, can't wait to see how it changes as it grows!! It's much lighter than the normal super snow, isn't it? Very nice, congrats!!

I didnt want to hijack Paulnj's thread about his cool mack hatchings (possible super snow eclipse)....but wanted to show a weird super I hatched a few weeks ago.....

Strange white patch on nose and part of head....

All fours legs are like this......

Even the tip of the tail has a white patch.....

Another "grow it up and try to prove it out" animal I guess ;)

Mike,
You have the genes that produce those (for lack of a better name I called them Possible Pieds) in your Super Snows from the Albino Super Snow you got from me. I noticed the white legs as far back as 2004. here is one I produced in 2006.

In this picture I have marked where the Pied type markings are on the face of one of them. The picture doesn’t show it very well but in person it is unmistakable.

Steve Sykes (who also got his original Male from me noticed the trait around the same time as I did and He has been trying to get it to express it self more through Line Breeding. So far it doesn’t seem to get any better from that. Just recently Jason (who didn’t get his Super Snow’s from me) posted pictures here on the Forum of a like Gecko. I have been trying to isolate the gene that causes it for the last two years. I have been breeding a trio of Mack Snows that I produced by breeding the original Male with the white legs to a Normal to produce Mack Snow Het for the Possible Pied gene. So far the only offspring that show it are the Super Snow’s. It has to be some type of inherent trait that only affect the Super Snow. As far as the Eclipse part goes it may have something to do with the Black eyes that both the Eclipse and the Super Snow share. I do not know that or anything, I am just guessing.

Here are two more pictures of a couple of different ones.

Awesome animals! Mike and I have hatched a few super snows this year with the "pied" look to them. They are very, very cool animals! Albey, those are gorgeous! Mike, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
