i still feel its just plain ol silly... maybe it should be sent to myth busters or something!! *shrug* they are a regular part of our geckos diets... heads and all... and no problems yet... *shrug*
I have never had any problems feeding supers, all my geckos effectively crush the living daylights out of them as they are being swallowed (chomp chomp chomp). Supers (and mealworms) also suffocate very swiftly so I doubt they'd live long enough inside the stomach to gnaw their way out somehow...
I have never had this happen. You might want to throw a poll up to see how many people actually have seen it happen, not heard from someone else but seen it themsleves.
My adult pictus geckos can even take down a superworm. If they can do it with no harm, a leo is for sure safe. The superworms are about half the size of the pictus.
The only thing that I have ever read about supers actually eating through (and it came from the person it happened to) was gecko eggs. Not a gecko stomach. Unfortunately, if eggs are left in an enclosure and there are supers running around, they can eat through the eggs apparently.
But as for eating through a stomach, it's never actually been heard of from anyone it's happened to. All that people have ever heard is "I heard it from a guy who told me they knew someone that it happened to.." Anytime you hear something like this and you can never find actual info about it happening, or proof, it's most likely a rumor and a myth, no matter what the subject may be. Someone somewhere thought that it was possible and just started spreading rumors that it happened, when it really didn't.. that's all.
Thanks for all the replies guysmain_laugh that rhymes ) I personally dont believe they can but my friend wasn't so surerolleyes and kept asking me even though I told her everything stated above(and my friend doesn't even OWN reptiles LOL) but she didn't believe me and had me make this thread. Thankyou for the replies
The thing about the super eating through the stomach at the pet store I bet it was through the outside not the inside when geckos eat them they crunch them around and almost always crush the heads if you watch you can always here it, I've fed 200 geckos supers for a long time and The only time I ever even seen a injury from a super worm is when one was hidden from escaping being eaten and took a bite out of the gecko in the inclosure, but as for being able to do it from the inside its a crock, the gecko has stomach acids that start breaking the worm down as soon as its eaten and the drown and suffocate as well so In my opinion its just an outside wound that was mistakenly diagnosed. I wouldn't worry about feeding them, just dont let any of them stay in the enclosure un eaten then you'll have a problem, geckos been eating things that could eat them for millions of years you know crickets are just as likely to bite geckos as supers, supers are so good for geckos, I wouldnt even worry unless you have your own war story or someone has undeniable proof,
