Right now I have my leo in a 10 gallon. With what I have in there, it does not leave much extra space. I realize that they do not need a lot of extra space, but if it looks cramped with a 9 gram leo, I can't image when it is full grown. I have another 10 gallon laying around and I was thinking if there was a way to connect them or something. Being a college student, I am severely lacking on money to buy a bigger one and was hoping to think of a way to expand the existing tank. Does anyone have any ideas? I realize that if I find a good way to expand this one I need to also think of a way to cover the space that my 10 gallon top will not cover. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I don't know about cutting glass and stuff but what I suggest is hitting up some trade markets (flea markets) ask pet stores if they get cracked ones will they sell them to you at discount prices, or try yard sales which might be a little harder to find this time of year. I have found some awesome things going out looking around.

Also if wanted to get real crafty I seen an awesome gecko house made out of wood earlier on another website but I don't have the link.

I made my gecko house out of wood. It was quite simple. It was also quite inexpensive because my fiance is in construction and I got to use the wood scraps he had laying around. I do think it is possible to combine the 2 tanks. All you would have to do is take off the plastic rim of the 2 tanks (that black piece that goes around the top), and cut the plastic base (the black piece around the bottom). You would have to cut through the glass sealant on the sides and then just seal the 2 tanks together with more glass sealant. I'm not very good at describing things, yet they come out pictured in my mind really well. You just have to look at the structure of the 2 tanks and how they were made and think what needs to come off and what needs to go back together.

Haha, I know what you mean. Thats what I was originally thinking. But then the problem is my 10 gallon screen top. I was thinking I could cover the other end with something else which would also keep some extra heat in, but I am worried that piece and the screen won't close enough and crickets will get out.

You can make your own lid using wood, screen and a staple gun. It's quite simple actually. You just make the frame with the wood(make sure it fits your tank where it rests in the lip around the top) and then staple the screen tight across the frame. Or you could tape the screen on.

Also keep a sharp eye out on trash day. I got a perfectly fine 20 gallon long tank with a lid that someone threw out with their trash. As they say, one man's junk is another man's treasure.

Thats a good idea. I could easily do that.

Thats just not something I can really count on happening. It would be one thing if the weather was nice and I could look for garage sales. The tank is just so crowded with all the hides and everything. I would have taken the fake tree out no problem, but he seems to enjoy climbing on it and I don't wanna take it away from him.

I would just get a 20 long gallon tank, thats plenty for 2 adult leos and will give you plenty of room. Their also cheap.

They aren't that cheap. At least not on a college budget. Thats why I have been trying to find alternatives.

I meant just a 20 gallon tank, they are $20 at the one here to bad you don't live close to me I have 2 sitting in my basement lol.

I think with the lid it costs more, I always either make my own lids or scout ebay for cheap screen lids, also reptile shows have good prices on lids usually not tanks that I've found.

I think the best solution would be to buy the 20 gallon without the lid and then make your own lid. That way you only pay for the tank and the screen for the lid, unless you can find some old screen. For the wood, you could just use scrap. People throw out wood all the time.

The $45 you were quoted on the phone is most likely for the "reptile" 20 long. If you buy the tank in the aquarium section rather than the reptile section, it is WAY cheaper.

The Petsmart near me had 20 long "reptile" tanks for around $60. The 20 long from the aquarium side and a screen top from the reptile section totalled $40. They really try and get you with the packaging ;)

Unfortunately, I can't even afford $40 right now. I just paid for this semester and $500 of books. Thats my problem...

The best price on 20 gallon tanks in the Mass. area is at pet supplies plus. It might be worth checking those out.

Thanks, I am away at school now and don't have a PSP here. Maybe I will ask someone in my family back home to check for me.
