I usually don't tell my parents and I just go and get them and then when my parents realize I have a new animal they are are kinda mad but they don't make me get rid of it. I know how far I can push the envelope though. No snakes or anything like that.

I think its weird. My father will let me bring any animal into the house but snakes is where he draws the line.... doesnt make sense to me. I Have Blue Tongue skinks, they are practically snakes with tiny little legs!

At first, my parents were strict with only having a few reptiles. As I begged and begged, I started to be able to get more and more, and now, it doesnt really matter how many I have, my mom cant tell when I get new ones, she thinks theya re all the ones i had before. I usually dont tell her when I get new geckos. My dad is the one that wants me to get more.

OK, for you teens or anyone fortunate enough to perhaps pass for a teen (something i failed to be able to do a long time ago) when you buy your animals does anyone ever ask your age?

My mom likes my reptiles! She likes the leos and Hershal, my BTS the best. Pink, my chinese water dragon is her baby- or so she says... :p

My mom does not have a prob with be getting more animals, its my dad!
I canonly ahve another reptile if he have space for another cage in my bed room and if they need any warmth. Adds to the light bill... :)

So that is why I TRY to house the animals that can be housed together to save on the lighting bill! ;)

(I am picking up two more leos this August, at a show!)

Well, when reptiles are shipped, I have to tell them my age, since an 18 + year old needs to sign for it, thats where my dad comes in..lol

My parents let me, but it is a painful process. They have a limit (currently of 3 terrariums), and when I ask what is wrong/why can't I have the new reptile, they give me reasons that don't make sense, such as they drive too much. I take care of my reptiles, and they have nothing to do with them. The only really good excuse they have, is that I am going off to college soon, and will need to find somewhere for my reptiles, as most colleges don't allow them. However, over time I hope to convince my parents to let me continue to expand my collection. My dad should understand. He had lots of snakes as a kid.:main_huh: :main_rolleyes:

For the teens: Out of curiosity, who buys the food, feeds the geckos, and cleans up after them? My soon to be 7 year old, is lucky enought to have parents that like reptiles, however, he still has to help take care of them (if they are his of course-but most of them are mine :) ).

well I am 19 years old. I have owned geckos since I was 17, My ex bought me my first two and because he did my dad didn't have a problem. Then i fell in love with a aft. And brought her home and my dad and family fell in love with her. Since then I have just kept adding. I am now up to 12 leopard geckos, 5 african fat tailed geckos, 6 crested geckos, 2 ball pythons, and 2 red tail boas. I live with just my dad however my sister who lives with my mom has two of my leopard geckos. I also own my own chihuahua. I have paid for everything. I pay to pick up the geckos. i pay for the food. I pay for even the food of the geckos my sister takes care of. And in return my dad doesn't care. They all live in my bedroom. Except my snakes. So my thoery is if you aren't old enough to pay for them you shouldn't have them. Unless your parents bought them for you and they help take care of them. But if you want them you should have to and be able to pay for them! It sucks if you rents wont have them Some day when you move out you can have everything you want. as far as college. most will let you have them. I am going to Michigan state to be a vet and was told i was aloud one. I however am going to live off campass. I can't take all of them. I am however leaving the snakes at home. My sister also that is taking care of two of my geckos is 16. And has her own job. She is going to get one of my afts however she will be paying for everything because it will be her gecko. There is my 2 cents!

My parents never really cared about me having reptiles but they had a problem with me getting more and more. Now I have so many that it doesn't even bother them. My dad actually took me to get a raptor pair for my birthday wich was really cool.

I feed the gecko and clean up after them; I offered to buy all the food, and even though my mom complains about having to buy food for them, she won't let me buy the stuff. I got my first gecko as a graduation gift from 5th grade(Sucka! I was wanting one since I was 9) , and the other for my b-day. It was hard enough convincing my Dad to let me get one, but when I said the magic words "Mom said I could", he lets me. My mother only lets me get more reptiles is because she knows nothing about them, and she thinks they're cheap (Ha! Yeah, right)
Here's something I said in response to this wondering..
Me:"Argh! The egg that was a bit red before is now showing up yellow! Infertile!"
Mom: "Well, maybe it's just because the baby's skin will be yellow!"
Come on, give me a break!
