I think to be a Giant you have to come from a Giant bloodline, you can have big leos that aren't related to Giant's. But for me Giants and Super Giants have to be related to some to be one. It's just weird how they don't have any unique color pattern. They were also proved to be dominant but is it just linebred? Breed Leos that are big to get bigger Leos?

The only reason I disagree with people calling their non related geckos giants is because the term 'giant' leads one to believe that it is in some way derived from Moose's lineage or tremper's animals in general. I can appreciate big geckos and if a giant popped out in his stock there's nothing that says it can't happen in someone else's but to me certain terms like giant aren't just for descriptive purposes but also genetic bookeeping.

I doubt peoples Giants are related unless bought from Ron or the breeder has bought one from Ron.

To be a Giant or Super Giant it has to have descended from the original gene carrier, which originated in Trempers geckos. All giants are descended from one original animal. So all Giants and Super Giants are in some way related...

Does there seem to be a link between Giants and reduced lifespan? Moose only lived 6 years, and a few others mentioned in this thread seem to have died in under 10, is that just a coincidence?

95% of the animals from the US have a fatty liver and anemia, due to feeding to much mealworms and superworms. And some people distend and feed them to much, that they nearly explode. That's mostly the reason why they die so early.

That is a bold claim, any evidence to back it up?

I don't think that Giant should be considered a morph. Yes it is genetic that a gecko is bigger than others...but there is no way of ensuring a gecko has the gene or not. I have a 126g male who is not from ANY Giant lines. So would he be considered Giant? If so then its not the gene we are labeling it is the weight that is achieved. So I think Giant and Super Giant if anything should be determined purely off of weight and not genetic make-up. IMO

People are looking at it the wrong way, there is a big difference from making a 8-10 inch male fat then a 11-12 inch male fat... I think weight is not the best way to classifiy giants compared to the length of the geckos as stated above. Now measuere you geckos that are 100+ and are not related to RT giants/SG and compare them.

Also i dont think a 100 gram and about 10 inch female is normal :main_rolleyes:

No it's not bold,

many others feed mealworms only too, so not the US animals in general. Tests were made at the university of Vienna.

But everyone has to decide what he feeds his leos, whether mealworms, superworms or crickets.

Nigel... Not true I have been in the Ball market for Several Years and No one sells Large Ball pythons as a morph. I see imported females of that size every so often and they are not advertised as a morph. I think I saw a 3500 gram female for sale the other day and it was not advertised as a morph.

I was going to make a statement about the Ball market and how NO one calls a Very Large Ball python a Morph nor do they call small Ball's morphs.

So that is another reason I would not consider the " Giant" to be a Morph.

Well to this statement I am not sure but how big is a normal Ball? Leos get to roughly 75g? If a gaint is 100+ grams that is 1/4 larger. Is 3500 .25x larger than a normal ball?
