Just watched this in the cinema. For some reason the girl that sat behind me laughed throughout the whole movie, I have no idea why she finds it so funny, it is so annoying to hear her laugh all the time!!

Ok, rant over. Although the Mayan Calender didn't actually claim 2012 as "the end of the world", but I don't rule out the possiblity that Earth will undergo some severe natural disasters in my lifetime. One thing I'm pretty sure is, IF there really is an evacuation plan, I'll definately be NOT on the list. I have no specialty, don't have billions of dollars, and I'm not even fit enough to climb to the highest mountain to save myself! Was kind of depressing thinking about it...:(

Ok, I didn't even read what you said. I want to see this movie so bad that I don't want to find out anything. I have had an obsession with the Mayans and 2012 for a few years. LOL.

I told my daughter (her birthday is Dec 19th) that we will have her birthday early that year and just get her really crappy presents because she will only have a few days to be mad at us before the world ends..... that was a joke that she got too btw lol.

I'm not sure what I believe about 2012, but something is bound to happen when all the planets align. Do any of you have any ideas regarding why the Maya and ancient Chinese as well as others, who were further widespread throughout the world than known modes of travel or information exchange could make up for would all single out this time period well before we supposedly knew of some of the planets?

I'm not interested in watching this moving. I'm tired of watching "Oh my God, the end of the world is NEAR," movies. They're just depressing.

When the world doesn't end in 2012, "they" are going to correct themselves and say "No, new evidence shows it'll end in 2040." Etc..

We live in a fatalistic society. People WANT to worry about the "end."

And it's so sad.

oh the joy of leaving these things to the One up there :) no worries about that final moment...

I'd like to see the film though and see if they improved their graphics since Deep Impact :D

Each day brings us closer to the end of time, and everyone will see an end at some point. I just can't dismiss the fact that so many people around the world have keyed in on a day that will come to pass in our lifetime. I'm very curious to see what transpires.

It's just a wild thought but would you say that Americans are more prone to get sucked up in these apocalypse theories? Looking at Y2k I know that MANY americans started loading up on life supplies and everything, while in Europe most people sat back and thought the best of it.

Any ideas?

Oh come on, don't jump the guns and assume everyone that mention 2012 means they believe 2012 is the end of the world...I'm starting to feel so bad for the Mayans. As far as I know, 21-12-2012 is merely the last day of their long count calender. Its kind of like the western calender that starts Jan 1 and ends 31 Dec; except the Mayan's one run for 5xxx years. Doesn't necessarily means there is nothing beyond it.

This is sad, because the movie stated clearly that the Mayans predicted the end of times in 2012, which isn't true. So when we enter the next cycle in 2013 (like switching from 31 Dec to 1 Jan), a lot of people will point their fingers at the Mayans and said "TOLD YOU SO!! HAHAHA..."

Anyway, the point of my original post was that I do believe catastrophies will happen, just don't know when. But when it happens while I am still alive, I'm pretty sure I'll be in the group that is left to die on Earth.

I went just to see for the special effects. And I must say the special effects were excellent! If you like special effects then I say it's a must see. And if this catastrophy does happen I would rather be home surrounded with all my family and pets then stuck in some ark.

I don't know what I believe either, perhaps not necessarily the end of the world, but I do believe *something* will happen due to the planetary alignment. People like to bring up and compare this to the whole 2000 scare, but you can't really compare it to that because that had to do with computers (and I didn't believe that crap for a second and was only 15 y/o). Who's to say what will happen? And I think Ken has a very good point, very well said too :) I too can't wait to see what transpires..

I also think Bonnie made some very good points.

Leaving in 30 mins to see it, I just hope its alot better then the movie Paranormal effect (I think that was the name of it)

All right, I saw this movie (Paranormal Activity) and although it had its slow and boring parts, it scared the crap out of me. That sort of thing is very real, but I can see how if you didn't believe in it, it wouldn't bother you. Everything they said about Ouija boards is true as well, it's very dangerous to mess with them and I'd highly advise against it.

It's our culture: pop culture, religious culture, societal, etc. My earlier post basically said it all. IMO (and remember, guys, this is just an opinion) the way most people I know think is very doom-and-gloom. And, again IMO, that is no way to live.

Ahh...idk how much I can get away with saying without offending anyone lol, but I think it's set us back from achieving true potential as a society as a whole. And, to a lesser extent, humanity as a whole.

I can really only speak for American culture, which is why this is a response to your post, but I assume there are degrees of this (some lesser and some [oh i hope not] greater than ours) attitude toward the "end of the world."

Perhaps that's just the philosopher in me trying to get out.

Regardless, I heard the movie 2012 had amazing special effects but the continuity, accuracy, acting, and overall scripting was lacking. I haven't seen it yet, but I still want to :)

I feel really bad for the Mayans too, to them this is just the end of a long count calender and a new understanding of the world, not the end of it. End of the world fanatics also will fail to acknowledge that other Mayan calanders have been found that date into the year 4070 something so... yeah.... The Mayan Apocalypse is solely a Christian idea that has been pressed upon the Mayans and their culture and it is really sad for the Mayans. I really have no desire to see this movie, but probably will anyway...
