This is something that has to be kept in mind not just for reptiles, but for being a breeder of any animal. Sickness and disease will always have a chance of happening, and old age is inevitable. Breeding related health concerns are always possible. A friend of mine just lost one of his girls to a prolapse. People must always keep in mind that breeding or not, there is always a chance of problems occurring when keeping these animals.

Very good points made. unfortunately with the joys of breeding that also you have the much less joyful aspects of breeding with animals not turning out as you expected and never do well, have deformed babies come out that can't make it, geckos just getting sick for no reason whatsoever that nothing helps and you see it suffering everyday, you have to retire breeders most of the time to new homes but sometimes they dont do too well ever again and can't be placed in a new home. just alot of things can go right but alot of things can go wrong. In the beginning it was harder for me but i was raised with a clear understanding that with life also comes death and i am one i can't see my animals suffer because it hurts me more to see them suffer. i hope all that plan on getting into breeding understand its not always joyous walk in the park sometimes a bumpy path comes and you sometimes fall.

I'm getting all my equitment ready to breeed for my first year. I would be heartbroken if something happened but I'm willing to take a little risk for some awesome little guys and gals this summer and fall. And if one of my breeders had something terrible happen to them then I would keep a babie of theirs to remember them by. And if the babies are not right then that's life some things aren't supose to make it and that's when I have to make a hard sad call but its for the humanity of the poor thing. And the gas chamber thing is a good idea if something ever happened and it was bad and I couldn't get to a vet then that might b an idea as a last resort.
