The WORST season in Golden Gate Geckos' history!

I hate to be redundant with the pics but the weight these girls have kept on compared to my 06 season is remarkable. Especially this female laid 7 eggs this year! She lost so much weight in her first season breeding for me with just four eggs laid, 2 of which hatched, I thought I was going to loose her.

Here's a few other gravid or recently laid females. The hybinos each laid a set in the last two weeks. I thought I had the records of how many each laid but I vaguely labeled the last few cups o' eggs.

This season's turning out bad for us too. We have now lost two females, and one of them we paid 1500.00 for....not only that but she was one of our favorite females.....we just opened her tub yesterday to find her dead...

Mel, wow, what do you think it was? Was she still laying and poss egg bound? That's just crappo. We lost a female too this year-not an exp like yours, but our fav and best bold stripe :(
Ian, thanks for your update and some history with noticing a difference in feeders and your leos. Those are some pretty girls by the way.
Our update so far-since we've switched to crickets a few months ago, the biggest change I've noticed other than our 08's growing better are our females. I had some who were ovulating and would not lay. But since we stopped feeding mealies they have all started to ovulate/lay and I have a few who laid over two months ago that actually look gravid again. And they are all holding thier weight well compared to when I was feeding mealies.
I noticed an issue with mealies late last year and it just got worse. I started my own colony and was able to use some of them, but it's still growing. I've no issues with those ones.

I found it!!! I was looking for this thread all last night. I guess I needed a fresh set of eyes.

Although the pics are gone I thought it may be beneficial for no other reason really, after re reading it.....LOL besides credibility to post the link. I trully believe we may be closer to the solution. There is alot of speculation involved most of which never went anywhere. I whole hartedly feel for all of you having this awefull situation and hope the pics do not rub salt in the wounds of everyone having a bogus season. I too just wanted to throw in the towel. Which was part of the reason for my disapearance last year. I had a hard time coping with the possibility it was something I was doing causing these animals to be as F-ed up as they were. Like so many times before let's keep at it we can tackle this together.

Thanks Ian. Believe me I felt like I was doing something wrong late last and early this year as well. I should try to find some before and after pics myself.

I have NO idea what caused it. The female was bred this season but only laid one clutch that was bad. She kept ovulating though and she could have been egg bound but I didn't see anything like she was. She was thin from not eating. She started eating two to three weeks ago. She was drinking and eating and very active. I just can't believe we lost her like that...

That is very sad news Matt and Mallorie. Are you going to have an autopsy done by a vet?
