Hi there. I'm new to all this gecko stuff. After doing a lot of research (and looking after them at work as I work at a pet store), I decided that I really wanted a leo. (It's those itty bitty feet and big chubby tails I think.) But there's a few things that I wasn't prepared for when I got Fafnir. For one, I never see him drink water. I have a clean bowl of water in there at all times but I've never seen him drink from it, even at night. Granted since he's new, he hasn't really ventured out of his hides that much, but I'm just worried he isn't drinking anything. Today I misted him a bit and he seemed to happily lick the water off his head and snout. But he doesn't seem to be losing any weight as he has a healthy appetite. I just want to know what's normal.

Also, how often do geckos produce waste? I've had him for about four days and he's only pooped twice.

I'd really appreciate some advice. :D

LOL! yeah, out of my 3, I have only seen one ever use the water bowl.

They prefer to get most of their moisture from their food.
That is why it's important to provide a varied diet. Crix and roaches both are high in moisture, as their little bellies can be stuffed w/ goodies like fresh fruit and vegies.
Also, leos lick the condensation in their moist hide.

Whew. Well that's good to know. I do mist the hide as well daily. I figured they probably wouldn't drink so much water what with them being desert-dwellers. Thank you.

I know! I've seen the ones at work drink. Some of them just dip their entire head in the water and others go swimming. There's a group of four or five that like to hang out around the pool (water bowl). I call them the Lounge Lizards. :p
