Is it right or wrong to toss eggs if you don't want any more. I'm not talking about tossing eggs after they have been in an incubator for a while. I'm talking about tossing the eggs right after they are laid.

Well its better to toss them then to hatch them and not be able to take care of them properly (or whatever other reason for not hatching them would be).

Tossing eggs is fine, but I'm wondering why we would chose to put our geckos through the stress and potential health issues associated with breeding if it is not our desire to hatch the eggs.

Not wanting to toss all eggs. I'm going to have my first try at breeding a couple pairs in about 2 years. Just thinking ahead. I take my time with everything. But when I eventually do breed I would like to start out with no more than 10 hatchlings so I was thinking after putting 12 or so eggs in the incubator I would toss the rest

It's a shame that people are afraid to post because of a few rude members. Remember that some people are always braver behind the safety of a keyboard.

I used to not be afraid to post and it got me in trouble a little bit. So I learn to close my mouth when I should. But I just am really confused about DB genetics and not sure where to learn about them. Anyways I'll worry about that after Christmas. Have a great Christmas GGG

Good to hear that some people still think before breeding:main_thumbsup:

I've had similar interactions in the past that have made me proof read things now. Sometimes there are extemist that I swear are only online to seek out drama. This is a forum, it's where your supposed to ask questions. If someone doesn't like your point of view, that's their deal.

To answer you previous question, it's better to limit the number of possible fertile eggs by only breeding 1-2 females. If you breed more there's a likely hood that you'll exceed your desired 10 hatchlings. To toss the last few clutches would be better than letting them hatch and not being able to care for them. But like Marcia said, why put the females through the stress of producing eggs and laying?

Ya I understand what you are saying about the drama. I will probably just breed 1 or 2 pairs in the first season. I have the capacity and the funds to care for app the possible hatchlings but I just done want to start out with such a large number. But besides all the drama here, I get TONS of help on these forums.

My opinion on this - ethically:

If you have too many to handle, toss 'em and be careful next time

Next time, I havnt bred any of my geckos yet. I'm giving myself 2 more years to save up before I even consider it. In my first year of breeding I only want a maximum of 10 babies just to see how i do with them. So I will just breed one pair and only incubate 10-12 eggs.

I say be careful next time if you accidently find yourself with too many eggs. I'm aware this was a hypohetical question.

I have not had to toss any fertile eggs, but with my duds I prefer to freeze them before I toss them. Living in such a warm climate, I don't want to take any chances of something hatching out wherever the garbage ends up.
