So I've been keeping this under wraps, but after hatching this one I can't hold it in anymore...

P1040263.jpg

About a month ago I hatched a solid white gecko with red eyes from pairing my Mack Snow "BSB" (search "BSB" for more info) to his mother... Although the gecko was full term it was dead when I found it... :main_no: My initial thought was it was a Bell Blazing Blizzard, but I now believe it was a RE Snow Enigma... This pretty much proved my theory that my "BSB" line geckos are indeed capable of producing Enigmas! The next baby from that pair is due in 10-12 days and I enthusiastically await it's arrival...

Just like the Enigmas, my "BSB" line geckos are capable of pulling color out of nowhere and can make very high contrast babies from rather drab females (see this thread and this thread)... My "BSB" line geckos will now be called Ultra Bells! :main_cool3:

Some of these also are Mack Pastels since the original male was one, but they're still able to make high contrast offspring (Mack Pastel sibs are generally very bright)...

The genetics are definitely not understood yet, but so far 100% of the offspring produced show traits of their fathers... Some even show right out of the egg like the one pictured at the top (head spots which don't show on normal Bells until at least two to three weeks)! I will leave it to you all to pick up on the other traits... :main_evilgrin:

I will have some available although females will be very limited...

Was the dead baby found dead inside the egg, or did it actually exit the egg on its own?

Any pictures of the dead baby?

Sorry if this seems like a silly question, but with the baby you think was a snow enigma, were either of the parents enigmas? If the parent that it was bred back to was a snow bell also (no enigma), the white baby could have been a super snow bell.

It was outside the egg... Sadly no pics... The egg was smaller than normal and I think the baby was weak because mom was very overweight when it was laid... The next egg (other went bad) is normal size and looking really good at 28 days...

Debbie, dad was a Snow Bell and mom was a Bell...

Here's mom...

Thank Kevin and supperl!

It stands for Black Spot Bell which was the original name I gave the babies from the special mom shown above... They appear to have black spotting, but it fades to a brownish color as they age... Since the color really isn't black I dropped the name, but use it here in quotes as to not confuse those who're familiar with them... I guess it just made it more confusing after all... :main_laugh:

Thanks Michael. :) The baby couldn't have been a RE snow enigma if it didn't have enigma parents.........It could have been something totally new and different, maybe. Sucks that it died. :(

BTW, the baby at the top of the thread is very pretty. ;)

I'm still not sure how you have proven anything???????

Please do not mislead people into believing that if they buy any animals from you, they may have a shot at producing enigmas!!!

Ummmm... sorry to burst your bubble Mike, but since the baby died and there are no photos, nothing is proven at all. We all should be very careful not to jump the gun when these things occur without solid, reproducible genetic evidence.

Just wondering if you had any particular reason for believing this? And how come you didn't take any pictures?

I am not selling any geckos from this project until they are proven...

I just wanted to share that my project is starting to show results with the people that enjoy seeing my geckos... Thank you very much to those that commented positively! I really appreciate it!

Regrettably I cannot turn back time and not press the sumbit button... To be honest I hesitated posting this because I knew it would bring negativity, but a part of me thought maybe people would refrain from posting if they didn't agree with me. I think we all would benefit from biting our tongues every now and then because we have no idea of how words which seem fit may cause others to feel...

Kelli, I'm sorry for bringing this all up again... If I do hatch out something special it'll be sold and all of the funds will be donated to a good cause just to show you all what kind of person I really am...

Michael, I'm sorry if you feel that people are being negative toward your project. I can only speak for myself when I say that I wanted to clarify (for people who might not know) that you can't hatch an enigma out of a snow bell x bell. You might have hatched something nifty, but it wasn't that.

We hope that you may have found something new. We personally have that dream as well, and even though we haven't started any projects yet, we can totally understand your excitement! Good for you for trying an actual project rather than just breeding for the normal. We hope you get the same as the one that died, in this next hatch! Love the first picture by the way! The eyes are awesome looking, they look purple. You should take pics now of all of your crosses, if you don't already do that, for you to see the progress you're making with your project. Good luck!!! Please keep us informed with PM if you don't want to post it anymore. We are really interested to see how different projects are started. Good luck yet again!!

Was a little misleading, the whole proving BSB can produce enigmas (possable, not saying it didnt happen, keeps fingers crossed for you) And the where you said you would have a few females available but not many...that was just mixed comments I think. I dont think you meant it the way it was taken. Either way, Good luck ive been watching your "BSB" 's since joining this site.

Mike, keep that dream alive and hopefully someday soon it becomes a proven reality!! If you are wrong about them being special, then atleast you enjoyed trying! But I truely hope you produce a new morph(or better yet pop out an enigma) and we can call it the Ecklund peyote morph :main_rolleyes:

I agree with paul. Looks can be deceiving and you can think its anything. Good job trying, but I do hope it turns out to be something.

Thank you very much for the kind words and support!

I only assumed Enigma because it's something that is already there and I honestly believe(d) the genes are out there... It would be great to make something totally new though!
