And the where you said you would have a few females available but not many...that was just mixed comments I think.

That is only because at the moment I have mostly temp sexed males and just two temp sexed females... ;)

Regardless of the tone of my previous post, I wish you success with your projects.

Thank you Marcia! Oh and don't worry, I haven't taken anything personally... I have enough gray hairs (yep probably 10% gray) to worry about stuff relating to my hobby!

I hope I don't get crusified for my question, but if the Enigma "popped out" of Bells' line, and Michael is breeding Bell X Bell, couldn't an Enigma "pop out" of Michael's line of Bells?

I am a COMPLETE novice when it comes to genetics, but I just thought that (no one) really knew "how" Engimas came to be, and if that is the case couldn't the "genetic make-up" of the Enigma be hidden in the "regular" Bell line?

If I'm way off mark just say so.

Enigma would have been brought about by spontaneous mutation just like any other new (non-combination) morph, e.g. albinos, Mack snows, blizzards. For the same mutation to occur spontaneously on two different occasions (within the space of a couple of years) is hugely unlikely.

Maybe it was another mutation what is sad as it is dead and we may have lost another wonderful moprh who knows for sure.

Michael - Is there any chance that the mom is also a snow bell? I know she doesn't look much like a snow from the picture, but I have a few adult snow bells with color similar to hers. But, if you hatched her out or saw her as a hatchling then you would definitely know...just curious.

Michael...I was just curious....you said that you, at first, thought it was a bell blazing....I was wondering what changed your mind about that?.....have you tried to "prove" the parents to be het for blizzard or not?....

It seems like the parents must be either both Snow Bells or het Blizzard. Not to hijack your thread or anything but I wanted to throw in a picture so everyone knew what they look like; RE Snow Enigmas still hatch with pattern. This was ours right out of the egg:

It would definitely be cool if something new hatches from your project though, good luck.

We all hope to produce something NEW. Something SPECIAL. To have those dreams is fine.

To make unfounded claims is another issue.
You have not PROVEN this!

This pretty much proved my theory that my "BSB" line geckos are indeed capable of producing Enigmas!

Color out of nowhere? Some of my most stunning animals have come from animals that don't look special, that does not mean anything.
420Geckos said:
Just like the Enigmas, my "BSB" line geckos are capable of pulling color out of nowhere and can make very high contrast babies from rather drab females ( My "BSB" line geckos will now be called Ultra Bells!

It sounds like genetics at work. The babies look like the father? Head spots...
420Geckos said:
The genetics are definitely not understood yet, but so far 100% of the offspring produced show traits of their fathers... Some even show right out of the egg like the one pictured at the top (head spots which don't show on normal Bells until at least two to three weeks)! I will leave it to you all to pick up on the other traits...

Mike you have produced some fairly nice normalish Bells, I don't see anything that would lead anybody to believe that they have the capabilities that you claim.

This quote is what bothers me the most...

I will have some available although females will be very limited...

Prove the animals out. If you do, I will gladly eat crow and tell you how cool they are. Until then, lets just keep the hopes to what they are. Hopes.

I suppose it is possible, but not very likely. Besides, if an Enigma popped out of Michael's Bells, it wouldn't be a 'new' morph.

It will be very interesting to see what the clutch that's incubating now shows!

I would have to argee with jeremy here, the bells shown are very nice normalish bells, nothing new. I think the responsible thing to do is prove them out before throwing theories of a "new" morph. Everyone wants to be the creator of something new, but alot of work goes into creating new morphs.

I changed my opinion on it being a BBB because it seemed less likely... Mom is definitely not a Snow Bell... I got her at NARBC '05 for $25... LOL!

Jeremy, I'm sorry it bothered you that much... I wasn't trying to hock off surplus geckos... Even though I'm at capacity I won't be getting rid of any of these until I've learned more about them... When the time comes and I am ready to get rid of them I'll probably swap them with others that have more experience than me rather than throwing them on Kingsnake for x amount of dollars...

Mike, don't try to push the issue onto me. I am quite certain that I am not the only one who takes issue with you saying that you have proven your theory. You made unfounded claims. Provide proof or drop the claims. It's that simple.

I have always believed in and follow your BSB project and do think that you could be on to something special, but I have to go with everyone else in saying that nothing is proven yet. You have no way of knowing what exactly the baby that died was. (Sorry for your loss) If you can hatch another and breed it to prove it out, then something can be proved. The picture of the baby you posted does look unique and beautiful! congrats on that one! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you can hatch out another one of these mystery babies! Good luck and do keep us posted. Don't let any negativity stere you away from something you enjoy.

i think that mike has put too much entusiasm in his post (he is a good guy that work well with leos), and i think that jeremy and marcia do their "job" to said that you mike need to preven what you assumed before write something about a new morph
btw
i like your project and i hope that you will be able to hatch something interesting next year ;)

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS INTO OFFENSE~! I seem to disagree to a point about it not being "new." IF proven out... would that not sort of be the exact same idea as for example, a Tremper Albino and a Bell Albino. Both albino but not compatible. Different projects for different lines. Like I can take a tremper to a blizzard and get results present(now) results but can't take a bell and get results(with exception to 1)

I see it that if it DOES prove out, another line of enigma could do nothing but make for m9ore exciting projects with new theorys.

Good luck with the project!

I'm not an expert by any means and have high respect when it comes to you gurus of gecko knowledge so take this as that, I am novice.

Forget words and descriptions like morph and combination morph, linebred traits and all that stuff.

I am just simply asking that say he really did hatch an "engima" could it not be possible that it could be the same genetic makeup almost but unique in it's own right. All I can base off what i'm trying to say is this: Tremper, Bell, and Rainwater albino. Albino because of what they do and why they do it(pigment, eyes, so on and so forth with the physical stuff) and then we have Enigma and since I do not own one I can only say what i have read. Enigma def look different than everything else so you can tell visually and intensify next of kin I think. So Tremper had an albino pop up in his line and then down the roada new strain was in Bell's. Correct me if I am wrong but could it be at least possible that it could be: Kelli Enigma and then Mike Enigma. Oh man this could be touchy on the word play. Please just stick to what i am trying to say and not twist words that i did not say. i am simply asking for my better understanding.
