Ok, I'm not sure if "Sacks" is the best thing to call it :) A lot of people believe that the balloons in the underarm area of Leopard Geckos is due to too much calcium, well, I have this female and she has HUGE sacks, and, I reduced her calcium over 6 months ago to only a very light sprinkling on her food every other feeding. Well, she still has them.

I believe someone else said that they could be from protein? What do you all think?

Here is me Female Tang Bell Albino and her balloons :)

Sacks just sounds bad, so I like to call them "puffy pits"! :) I've never seen anything like the ones your girl is sporting, those are absolutely insane. We had a long talk with Pat Kline about this today at the show. He had them tested and the results came back and pointed to protein. I can't imagine it having anything to due with calcium after cutting hers back so drastically.

I don't think they are fat pockets, because they are very "Airy", you can't feel anything in them, it's weird.

Did he say if there is anything I can do to help them go away?

I like Puff Pits too :)

Jeanne I can't offer much advice on this. Our best sht had them last year almost as big as your girl's. We cut her calcium etc and they never really went away. She ended up passing away-I don't know if it was due to those or not. This year my super hypo has them, but I think just for being breeding fit-they went down to almost none now.

Wow, I don't think she died due to them, there must have been something else going on with her. My female has had them for about a year now and it doesn't seam to bother her at all. I bred her last year, but only got 4 infertile eggs. I am going to try breeding her again this year, hopefully she does better this time around.

I had read in another thread that someone's vet told them that it was excess storage for whatever they had extra of. It could be fat, protein, calcium, vitamins, etc. It would be a good question for guest chat next month!

I have a few geckos that have those as well. This girl is a second year breeder and has now grown over 100 grams so I thought maybe it was just excess fat. I would be interested in finding out more about them as well.

has anyone besides pat considered taking them to the vet for blood testing to figure out what is wrong? Someone commented that it is storage for excess something. If that is the case it would be good to know what the gecko got excess of to cut back on that. The vet should be able to tell with a blood test

I emailed Felicia to have this as one of the questions for the Chat with Marcia's Vet (Dr. Harkowitz I think is his name). I am going to see what he says first, if he recommends a vet visit then I will bring my female. It will probably end up costing me $100 or more for the test, I don't want to have to spend that if I don't have to, I am already spending over $1000 this week for my dogs surgery). She isn't bothered my them at all, she eats and acts perfectly normal.
