Unsure about feces consistency

I hate to bother you guys with a question like this, but I would rather have some opinions before I make the lengthy (40 min) drive to the vet if there isn't anything abnormal. :)

I've had my leo for 9 days now, and he has done wonderfully for me. He ate right away and acted perfectly at home from the start. He's eaten everyday (aprox. 15 crickets and mealies per day) except yesterday. I'm fairly certain he is in shed at the moment, so I'm not worried about the lack of appetite as I know that's perfectly normal.

However, his feces worries me a bit. From day one it has always been very normal, brown solid with solid white urate. He has gone every night as well. However, this morning when I went to clean his tank, I noticed it was a bit softer than it has been in the past. I wouldn't consider it diarrhea as it isn't really runny, it's just not as solid and compact.

I did change his diet slightly, as I had been feeding him a combination of crickets and mealies, but I ran out of crickets and haven't had a chance to pick up some more, so he has been eating just mealies for the past 2 or 3 days. I'm not sure if that could cause a change or not.

I recently had a salamander die of parasites, so I am very paranoid about it at the moment. Does this seem like I should be worried or am I just being too picky about the poo?

This may be disgusting but I could post a picture if that would help :main_laugh:

I wouldn't worry about it either, as long as he's eating and acting normally. Pictures always help, though. And i'm a big advocate of strategic deworming, which means to deworm weather parasites are seen or not, if finances allow.

For those of you that wanted to see a picture... ugh here you go...

I have to say, it looks much more disgusting when zoomed in lol. There's no sign of urate because he has a habit of trying his best to get it as close to the glass as possible, thus the urate ended up on the underside of the paper towel this time.

I've debated on whether or not to take him to the vet since I first got him, just to be on the safe side. My vet, however, can be very... random... with his charges. Sometimes he'll do it free of charge, other times he'll charge you an arm and a leg:main_laugh:

It looks fine to me, but if you really are nervous and a vet visit will make you feel better then do it if money allows.

That's reassuring. I'd rather put off the vet visit until he's more used to being handled, less stress for the both of us. :main_thumbsup:
