I think I've read something about regeneration somewhere... can't find it.. I think that for a limb, or in this case, a tail, the animal somehow prevents the wound from scabbing over, and some other things. We only have this regeneration technique in our fingertips right now. Let me get back to the point.. lol. I'll say no to the regrowth of the tail.

Ohh, the poor little thing!!! I wouldn't think it would regenerate, either, just because it wasn't born with one to begin with, but I really don't know. David made a good point, it will have a hard life without it's fat/water storage unit. I wish you the best of luck with this little one!!!

in my thoughts
even though it doenst have a tail to store fat he could still do it in his lower belly. There is plenty I think to keep him going so their shoulnt be a problem. He looks cute though.

Up to my knowledge the animal does well! Hybernation is impossible because it can't store anything, but as long as it's fed, there's no problem. Just looks a bit weird... ;)

I just can't get over the pic! You should take another one of his back end, I'm curious to see what it looks like..

and you're right, Edgar and Stevie, the little one should do just fine :) I just figured there would be some complications for the gecko during it's life since it doesn't have a tail

and I also agree, he is very cute nonetheless :)

I have a leo with tail amputated and didn't grow back; he is still doing very well. I think your little guy will do just fine too!

Bonnie the difference with a tail amputee and this gecko, is that this gecko never grew a tail.

I wouldn't say that the gecko in question will necessarily have a harder life with the lack of a tail, but I would definitely avoid hibernation (like Stevie stated). I usually don't lower temps on any of mine anyway, but definitely avoid it here.

I was given a gecko born without a tail from a incubator fluctuation and she's 58 grams and loving life.

Leos have many ways of storing fat including the bags behind the front legs, the legs themselves and of course the overall body fat. If it's a female I don't think I would breed her as females will deplete their tail fat quite fast when laying eggs. Egg laying would probably hit this particular female quite hard.

Like Paul said, I don't see an issue with the gecko leading a long happy life!

I saw this post and was jinxed!!! :( well I ve lost a few eggs from one female this season, the babies all died in the eggs. today I saw one collapse and the baby moving inside. I opened it a little to give it a chance to get out. I opened up its sibling that collapsed yesterday it was formed but only half a tail. the one today hatched, though no tail at all. here are the pics

I am sorry to hear about all of your problems this season, but congrats on the two hatchlings though, even if they don't have a tail! I still think the one pictured is very adorable :sweetheart:

Any idea what could be causing that?

I don't see why they should have wonderful lives as someone's beloved little pet!

Hi,

David, I believe you got it wrong, I believe what most are saying is that these "untailed" Geckos should ONLY be kept as pets and not for reproductive purposes, At least this is what I got from most of the replys.

Thanks guys for your answers I will keep posting pictures of this little guy/girl as it grows because I will most propably keep him as a pet for myself this way I can asure no one will try to reproduce him.

Best regards
Bruno
