YAY!!!!! We have live geckos! We picked them up at the local hub and there was an audience watching me open the package. When I opened the box there they were, crawling around in there little deli cups. We are so happy now! We will post pics as soon as they get settled in. Thanks for the positive thoughts folks. Lets just see how the package from Kelli comes in today (I'm sure it will be fine)
Believe me, I would need a toupe if that happened to me.
I have seen how good Steve packs and know they are more resilient than people think, plus with all these warmhearted wishes....
I am so happy they arrived to you in good shape! This was a new one for me. I think what happened was someone in Sacramento put them on the plane to the Rockford, IL hub, and they should have gone to the Louisville, KY hub to be routed to FL. I wasn't thinking they had much of a chance...20 hours in Chicago when the temps were in the low 20s without heat packs....that doesn't sound good. But, based on the fact they didn't freeze solid I bet the sorting warehouse is indoors and somewhat climate controlled. If you think about it, it would be pretty unpleasant for the UPS employees to be sorting packages at 2 AM outside when the temps are in the 20s and below. They must keep it at least above freezing for the comfort of the employees (and the geckos!). Well, I learned something about UPS from this situation. I always thought the were sitting outside in an open air warehouse.
To date I have never lost a gecko during shipping (knock on wood), and I'm so glad that we had a very good resolution to the situation!
I'm being trained in the the Paul Almendinger School of Thought with an emphasis on cold weather shipping... LOL! He helped me through a recent shipment...
Thanks you guys!! We are so happy we got them! The people at the UPS hub here were SO nice! They were really worried about the geckos and had atleast 5 employees searching the truck as soon as it got here. Matt went to open the box and he had a crowd around him. lol.
And that is true Steve...I think it must be indoors as well...it would be miserable to have to sort things in the cold. I will say that it was in the 50s all day and inside the hub at ups it was about 60 so the building helps to break the wind chill factor.
We are going to name these two breeders after some type of miracle! The male is a goof ball! He's really cool too. He was covered in poo from the ride. lol. Once he warmed up, I cleaned him off and he was so sweet. lol. He seems cuddly? If you can call a gecko that. lol! And the female deffinately doesn't miss a meal! lol She's gorgeous now that she's warm and I put food in with her and she was eye-balling it. hehehe!
Thanks for the prayers, thoughts, and good wishes!
