visionariums, aquariums, or tupperware ?

i've been doing a lot of reading in preparation for the four new geckos I'm getting this coming week and I can't decide between visionariums, aquariums, or the often popular tupperware.

I already have a sixty and one twenty gallon aquarium and would need to buy one more 20 gallon to accommodate everyone and keep the new giant male and giant female seperated until everyone's up to size.

Can anyone give me the pros and cons of each..

the visionariums look like the best choice all around but they are extremely expensive and a hard find in Florida.

Thanks,

Michael J

I use aquariums, I dont own any visionariums, they are nice but like you said, their expensive. Tanks are cheaper and work just as good. As far as rubbermaid containers, they work but not good for viewing.

I use Visionariums with my leos and I love them. I have some pics of them up on my site, and I can give you the general pros/cons:

Pros
You can easily divide the cage which REALLY comes in handy
They are easily stacked
They are attractive
They fit perfectly on a dresser or bookcase
Plenty of ventilation
Easy to heat with a uth or tape
They can be broken down and stored easily

Cons
Crickets can escape through the vents
Vents and sliding glass doors leave no room for substrate
Pricey
Not practical if you have a lot of leos

Hope this helps and good luck! :)

I use 5 visonariums (60" H) and plan to get maybe one more. I house 9 or so Leos in them. I LOVE TO SEE my leos interact and roam. bask etc. I have no complaints. I LOVE EM!! I was tired of having no space in my room due to 6 random aquariums in my room. I didn't have to pay shipping, my local exotic pets store had them in.

There is about an inch space on the bottom for substrate but i Use paper towel. Never had no escapees (feeders) yet.

I just snapped some new pics of mine this evening. I had no idea you could stack so many of them . . . that is really cool. :)
Anyways, the top one houses my African Fat Tail (I need to get more accessories for her cage) and the bottom one houses my Leos:

Michael I have been into reptiles for years and my advice to you is grab some 10 or 20 gallon long aquariums and put them on their sides so that you can stack them. I place 4 rubber feet on what would now be the bottom. I silicone a 3 inch piece of eight inch single pane on the bottom of the tank frame. I use screen tops and place them on the front with clips. This has been the easiest and cheapest way besides a rack wich I don't care for because of the room given to the geckos and the naturalism. I will post pics of how I have them set up in a day or two.

It took me a second to picture it, but that is a great idea! I would definitely love to see some pics. How many are you able to safely stack? Thanks for sharing your tip with us. :main_thumbsup:

thats a really good idea and much cheaper.. I'd love to see your pics when you get them loaded..

thank you all for your suggestions but bottom line is that I want to save some money because i just coughed up around 400 for my new geckos and am looking at getting a lot of supplies. The visoinariums would be the most aesthestic and most easy to use, but at more than quadruple the price of an aquarium of the same size it doesn't sound like the most practical means right now. The cheapest I've seen them is around 65 without a lid so add ten plus shipping.

Cool idea - that sounds like a very interesting way to stack aquaria!

I do love my visionariums, though! :)

I know they look awesome and will probably go with them in the future but right now I'm giving half of my extra income to you.. and my other breeder..

money well spent though.

Here are some more pics of the stacked 10 gallon tanks. I use rubber feet to make the gap between the tanks so air can get through. Also so the screens can go on. The glass in front is 3 inches tall. If you do this with the tanks make sure you sand the glass that you silicone in for the front or you will cut yourself bad. I have a few times. You need to sand it with emery cloth.

It is really easy and with all materials costs me about 40.00 per tank that is with all materials including heat pad and glass and screen and all.
