i wanted to share these pics because this is the other half of my life. this martial arts has been a part of my life since i was 5 years old, and just as big of a part as my reptiles. so i finally got all the pics from our "picture" night (we spend 2 hours taking pics to update our dojo webpage). this is me doing some throws and getting throwen ill give some explaination as to what part of the body is being affected and the end result of the throws.

this is a head throw designed to break the neck during the throw and as i explained befor im kicking my leg out to use my wieght to force the other guy into the ground even harder. the kicking of my leg is called sutemi. if the throw doesnt break his neck he will land on the back o fhis head.

this throw is called oni kudaki (spelling) which translates to crushing the deamon. its designed to destroy the arm from the wrist up to the shoulder and ofcourse make the person land on the back of his head. and i LOVE THIS PICTURE by the way. the look in my face is something we strive for in the school. its to look on to the next person coming after you saying, this is what i am doing to your friend. you are next. and that is my sensie in the back by the way.

this is tiehana which means flower. the way your write flower in kanji is the same motion you use to do the throw. this breaks the wrist, dislocates the shoulder, and as always drops them on the back of their heads..

this throw is Oseicomi roughly thranslated the big throw. its doing the obviouse. getting the preson up in the air as high as possable then bringing them straight down on their heads.

this is not so much of a throw. but from a position where i am in a standing arm bar his leg wraps around my neck, the arm gets broke on the way down, you get smashed face first into the ground, and then the elbow is backwarded once on the ground.

another virsion of oni kudaki
_dsc0430_resized.jpg

_dsc0431_resized.jpg

another virsion of tiehana. only this time like the sutemi I am dropping to my knee using my wieght to pull him into the ground just that much harder. this puts pressure on the shoulder and makes the person chase their own arme over their own shoulder and this is where the real destruction happens.

another leg throw.

these next throws are made to kill a person. no if ands or buts. if you are throwen from these you will die. in fact the other student and my self were the first to learn these throws in our dojo. the idea is you are throwing the person closer to the ground so they dont land on the back of their head they land on the top causing the body to fall over and the neck to break. we worked increadably hard to figure out how to do these on eachother with out actually dieing.

this throw was designed to break the elbow backwards behind my neck as you can see as i am doing the throw by the throat.
_dsc0540_resized.jpg

i had to let go of the arm as soon as possable to prevent the break
_dsc0541_resized.jpg

_dsc0542_resized.jpg

this is the last one. it is made to do exactly what it looks like.

I don't know if it's a bad thing that the slightly morbid title made me want to look at this but oh well. All I gotta say is that's badass. The looks on some of the other guy's faces captured as a still is pretty amusing too... lol

Great photos and descriptions! I'm definitely bringing my gun to a fist fight with you. LOL I wish my parents would have put me in martial arts as a kid. Gymnastics was fun and has segued into a job as an adult but as a tiny person it would be fun to know how to hip toss anyone.

Awesome pics Nevin, looks like you do very well in your class! You and my fiance Mike would get along great, all he ever talks about is fighting and different moves to hurt/kill people lol.

This is my favorite pic, you're right about the expression, it's perfect for calling on the next opponent ;)

That was pretty interesting. A lot of the first set of pictures look like Aikido throws only we call them by other names and when we discuss and describe them we don't talk in terms of how it's going to maim or kill another person. If the throw is done to someone who understands what's coming and is trained to fall correctly, it's possible to practice and not have anyone get bruised.

Also, I started Aikido when I was 35, so it's possible to start any time.

thanks very much everyone!!

mel, i was always the smallest person. im now a whopping 5'5 and 155lbs. so im very glad i got to do this stuff.

yeah ken you are right. that is one of my favorite things, we practice. ways to take a gun away. cause if your held at gun point and you give a person what he wants he might just shoot you any way. so you might as well do what you can

lena, boni, we practic tucking our opposite shoulders and selective tension in the limb we are being throwen by. if your fight the throw you will get your arm broken, if you go with it too much you will land on your head. we get bruises ALL the time, on occasion a broken bone. but we also practice healing as well. we can reset bones that have been broken, and make bruises go away.

and alize, you are half right. i practice aiki-jujitsu. in a short story, the creator of aikido almost killed someone becuse of aiki-jujitsu, and he realized how dangerous it was and that it was a waring art, not just a martial art, so he wanted to dumb down the art and make it more peacefull and less violant. so yeah thats why they look familure to you. i also agree with you on the age thing. as violant as we are we have 58 year old woman in the dojo and she is bad@ss

That makes sense. Someone taught some jujitsu techniques in a class quite awhile ago and used a lot more "taking down with a choke" techniques. Of course, from my perspective, I wouldn't say that aikido is "dumbed down", but that it has chosen a different path.

we have alot of chokes as well. but something i am quite proud to say is we are one of the only 2 or 3 schools in the USA that practice traditional old world jujitsu and aikijujitsu. almost all the stuff taught is brazilian and MMA stuff. its kinda sad to me, most of the new stuff all looks the same. we arent even aloud in any type of competitave fighting including the UFC or anything of that sort. i love it! as for dumbed down, i understand what you say. i only say that because when he wanted to make it more peace oriented he left out so much from the old ways. i ment no offense by it.

No offense taken. Aikido is very focused on being able to fight so you don't have to and its different orientation is most obvious in that there are no aikido competitions (that I know of).
