I am sitting here at the computer, and just a few seconds ago the whole house started rocking, and the doors to my computer cabinet were flapping back and forth. My husband was in the garage and the hanging lights are still swinging! All I could do was shout, "Earthquake!!! Earthquake!!!"

Boy, that is scary.

Holy moly! We just had a major aftershock. My adrenaline is pumping. I just never know it it's gonna be "the BIG one" and I need to duck for cover.

I feel like I am seasick right now...

thank god you guys are ok and safe, and the geckos are ok too.

Thats one reason i am happy in florida no earthquakes, but we have bad hurricans , but cali has some to some times. But not as much. And plus the pacific ocean is cold so the hurrican doesnt get that much strength. Florida has that warm gulf of mexico to power up the hurricans. Wonderful right!

No earthquakes here in OK... or hurricanes... but pretty much everything else, lol! Tornadoes are the bane of the state though.

Scarry stuff, Marcia! Glad you guys are ok.

We just had a 2. something here in Cleveland last week. I have to laugh when we get earthquakes here, they are nothing, can't even feel them most of the time. The first time I felt one I just thought a semi had driven by, then my ex-husband came in and told me what had happened. I swear I would never live somewhere that got earthquakes and here I am......LOL.

A couple of years ago we had a quake here in MD. I thought the construction company just dropped soemthing heavy again. But when I turned on the TV at lunch they said we had a small quake. Glad every one is ok over there in CA.

Glad you're okay, Marcia! My brother experienced the earthquake that devasted Peru a couple of months ago. Hearing him describe it is unbelievable.

Here there was a small earthquake once. I was in the bus when it happened. Then there was a big lurch and I only could think "Geez, bus drivers are so careless". Only when I got home and turned on the TV realized it had been a earthquake, lol.

I hope everyone there is okay. Sounds like it has been very scary.

Hey Marcia, we felt that one down here too! Biggest one I've felt in a long time - I had expected the epicenter to be closer to us. We didn't feel any of the aftershocks though - they were centered further north than the first.

Yeah, this one was what we call a "rock and roll", which come in waves and feel like you're on a boat. We have some we call "shakers", which rattle the walls, windows, and stuff on shelves. Then there are the "rumblers", ones that you can hear coming... like a train, and they hit like a truck and knock you over, then rumble away.

According to the news, this was considered a 'moderate' quake, about 4.6 on the Richter Scale. It's epicenter was just northeast of San Jose on the Calaveras fault. Each point on the scale is X10, so the huge Loma Prieta quake we had in 1989 was 6.9, or more than 20X the force of the one we had last night.

Well I'm glad you guys are ok! I've never been in an earthquake (lots of hurricanes though), I can't even imagine how scary it must be.

How scary. I'm glad that you're okay.
I've only experienced one "real" earthquake and don't want to feel another one. I couldn't handle living in California.

Wow! Glad you're ok! Hope all is well there. Matt is talking about moving out to CA for his job...I'm not looking forward to those quakes. Florida is nice. THe hurricanes don't bother me so much because atleast we know they are coming. The quakes just come without warning. We had an earthquake in the gulf of Mexico earlier this year and Fl felt it. some people felt it...others didn't. I was personally asleep and it didn't wake me up. lol. Glad everyone's ok!

I just posted on the other thread - my dog was nosing me around that time and I pushed him away because I thought I felt dizzy lol. Don't know why "earthquake" didn't occur to me.

Nancy: Where in central California are you?
