How many of you guys/gals made your own sites? If not, you did you use to make it? I'm purchasing my domain name today & trying to move to the next step.

i was bored last nite and started designing my site altho i dont know if i like the layout/colors for a gecko website so i may nix it or save it for a diff type website, its not very hard to make a basic site tho i started making websites when i was 14-15 or somethin like that. there are alot of tutorials and how to's online as well. But if you dont have the time to learn then do it i'd get somebody else to do it. As far as who? There are several ppl here that could do it.

BlueVoda is awesome and it is reasonable
I have checked them out but i really have no use for a full blown website right now with nothing to sell

I just play around with the free stuff-like Google pages to put together an album of my Geckos and stuff
Spruz.com is another freebie website that is for just messing around

There are many people that are web designers (a few here) and their prices vary according to what you want etc.

I would do a search as well as asking around and look at their work and go from there

I just bought a book on HTML coding and taught myself. It ain't fancy, but it works. :main_laugh: And I like that I know *why* things work, so I can help figure out why they *don't* when they don't. BTW, I'm completely computer NOT smart, so it doesn't take a computer geek to do. ;)

Of course, I don't know anything fancy like Java......but that's OK. ;) I use notepad and convert everything into HTML. Good luck!! :main_thumbsup:

I made my site myself. I took a website design course and I still suck but I still rather do it myself. I have another site that's in flash that I paid someone else to do but I can't update it (don't know how to use flash) so it wouldn't work for my gecko site. I use dreamweaver and it's pretty cool. I can point and click to save time and get to the code when I need to. But like stated earlier you'll have to spend some time learning, there is no 30 second anything with this.

I built our site and a handful of others out there. It's a lot of fun, I just wish I had more time. I'm still not used to this whole fulltime job dealio, I worked from home for a good 4.5 years and it's been hard adjusting. I wish I still had time to take on more work, it's always fun. I'll squeeze some extra work in somehow though.

I'm happy I've been able to stick with our site design. I have 100s of unfinished sites on my backup drive. I tend to be too critical and change my mind a lot. I don't plan to change our site anytime soon though, I'm still very happy with it.

I also have my flash portfolio site here: www.ryanroth.com. I have a ton of new things to add, but I haven't gotten around to it. Some time soon I hope. There's still a good bit to see even it's old though.

I made my first website (pure raw XHTML code, and it certainly looked like that. ;) ).

My latest website was made using google's pagebuilder. I loved how simple and organized it was... Plus you can never beat the price of $0 and no pop-ups!

Someday I hope to own my own domain though and have a website built from scratch. Until then though, my google-hosted site is just dandy.

I'm a software designer for a fortune 500 company (I'd rather not post my company's name in cyberspace in case because of legality) but I learned code in college and pretty much from the school of hard knocks.

I design operating systems for RV and Marine Dealerships. I also run a second business on the side designing web sites for others, as well as doing IT consulting for a few local businesses. I've designed probably 30 sites this past years. At this point, I wish I didn't know code because now that people know about it, they call me and I'm up at all hours working for them. The money helps though.. :)

Like Marcia said, there is no 30 second lesson. I designed our first one out of flash and had a lot of issues with ability of others to access it and processor needs to view most of it..

I've heard of a lot of issues creating a site through godaddy, although I bought my domain and the pointers to it from them.

For the novice (as well as many advanced users) DotNetNuke is a great program and is free. My friend hosts mine for me for free, but it took me a good month or two of working on it before I was happy. At the same time I'm updating it constantly and trying to add things all the time.

Marcia's great site as well as a few others were our inspiration for building one.

If you have any questions whatsoever, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.

HTML is the best overall because it can be accessed by the most people.

A major thing is getting yourself in the major search engines and is half of my work when designing or overhauling sites for clients.
