I piped my egg that has been cooking for over 60 days. It got really fuzzy and moldy so I decided to pip before throwing it away. Its entire bottom collapsed on week three so I was just incubating and hoping.

The baby looked like it would be a really neat marked Tangerine...it had a HUGE head and a tiny body, no way it would have survived hatching. It looked like a worm in a thimble....it also only had three legs, the fourth had no claw developing and i had to pull it out of the dent crevice.

:(

so Now I'm only incubating four fatty eggs. all my leo eggs are molding.

I was using hatchrite and my temps were between 84-86. I couldnt get that fluxuation to stick at one or the other... I'm using the non turbo fan hovabator.

Next batch of eggs I'm thinking of NOT using the hatchrite... I'm wondering if it's somehow my fault!

One egg had white fuzz on it. the other had what appeared to be tiny brown balls of mold growing- so im sure that was somehow contaminated.... and grew whatever touched it...but I dont get why they are growing growing growing then bam! mold. I may have forgotten to air that container last week tho- I dont remember if I told my father in law and we were away ...could that cause the humidity to bump up and cause the mold?

Well Christina, if it makes you feel any better, you not opening the container last week had nothing to do with the eggs not going full term... I rarely open my incubation containers... The only time I do is to add more eggs to it... I would say I open a container once every two weeks at most... Some containers go a month without being opened... Also, a two degree fuctuation is 100% fine especially in the range you mentioned...

As far as the mold goes, in most cases healthy live eggs do not grow mold... The mold will usually start to grow afer the egg is dead...

Here is what I think is going on... The eggs are getting too wet... When eggs are incubated dryer and they actually stay dry themselves, they do a good job of taking in the needed moisture on their own... If the substrate around the egg is too wet, the egg can take in too much water and eventually die as a result...

Personally, I do not think it if your fault the eggs are not going full term... I think you are putting faith into a product that may not be as good as others or as reliable as mixing your own...

Hope this helps you out a bit...

thanks! I went to the store and next clutch I will be using my own. It's interesting to me that the African Fat Tail eggs are doing fine! We'll see if they go full term or not...thanks!
