What is it called when the eye is black but then changes to a brown with lines in it?

I have a blazing Blizzard. I noticed yesterday when I took him out for some pictures that his eyes got more brown red when he was in the sun. Before I though his eye where half black and a little brown. Now I see they change. Tell me what this is called.

Also I don't think this has any affect in crested geckos but my crested's eyes change depending on the light. They get more black at night.

This is called one of 2 things, I think: either it's eyes looking different in different lights or it's the pupil of the eye getting large when the light is dim and small when the light is bright.
