Blatta Lateralis are mine. I also have Dubias but they tend to be slower an hide which makes it hard to feed them off at times. The Lateralis are very active and fast as hell and my leos go for them more so than the Dubias. Only down fall is that they lay egg sack rather than giving birth like the Dubias.

I have both dubia and discoids; and I like the dubia better becasue they're more mellow. I'm still a bit scared of the discoids because of their stronger legs and faster movements... In terms of feeders, I think discoids will work better though, since they keep on moving whereas the dubias stay still when they're in the feeding dish.

I keep 5 species – orange head, discoid, oriental, hisser and lobster. My favorite would be the discoids. They produce extremely well for a non-climber and their waste is so much easier to clean. LOL.

I went with lobsters. Yeah they can climb and are a pain to contain sometimes. But the geckos and frogs LOVE these things. And they breed very quickly. I was actually worried when I first bought them that the colony wouldn't be able to keep up the production fast enough...but they most certainly have! I also have discoids, they started out slowly but have done pretty well out in the garage. My monitor sometmes eats the adults but the colony is actually useless to me...will probably drag them to the show & sell them, not all of them I need to keep a few to put on students who make the mistake of falling asleep in my class. (That usually only happens ONCE!)

I went with the Dubias as my favorite.... They also breed fast for a non-climber as long as their heat and humidity requirements are met.... They are easy to sex, move slow, do not smell, and are an all around great feeder roach in my opinion....

so far i only have discoids, and they havent started breeding yet. my nymphs just started turning to adults about a week ago (i currently have 3 adults).

but they are super easy to keep, and they look cool, and they dont stink.

i cant wait till i dont have to buy feeders anymore!!

I voted other because I definitely don't feed roaches to my geckos. You'd think it might give them a better appetite though...

Hey John i know you said you keep lateralis.. I was just curious as to how many you have and what size tubs you keep them in. I only got 100 to start out with and i'm kind of wishing I had bought more. They're already growing pretty quickly though.... I think I had like 3 adults when I first got them and now there are noticably big females and winged males running around.
How do you think could comfortably fit in an 18 gallon rubbermaid with egg crates?

I fed off part of my lateralis colony not too long ago...just enough to see that my geckos REALLY like them! With the discoids, I got (roughly) an 80% acceptance rate. I'd guess about 95% acceptance with the lateralis. Funny enough, some geckos that don't like the discoids like the lateralis, and some that don't like the lateralis actually like the discoids. Go figure.
