i've only fed off a bunch of males from my lateralis colony and so far everyone is accepting them. it's pretty cool to see them chase these guys around rather than just eating mealworms out of a bowl. i have a ton of egg cases from the lateralis but i've yet to see large numbers of nymphs although i've only had them a month or so. i'm hoping they'll bulk up my hatchlings pretty quick.

dubia is good, lobsters are bad, hissers are in between!

the only good thing my sister ever tought me is, how to knock a roach off the wall and step on it before it crawls under the fridge! :main_thumbsup:

Ok well I voted for dubias because that's all I've tried so far!

It definitely takes a strong stomach to pick them up at first - and I'm not even that squeamish! But after a while, it's nothing - you get used to them! and they do fatten up the little ones....

Ive actually reconsidered my earlier answer, got over my hatred for roaches, and got some orange heads. They arnt bad. The thing i hate about them is that they are hard to grab, and they are fast, if ya drop one its loose in the house, and I dont think the parents will appreciate that one. LoL

I have Dubia currently and ALL my Leos love them! My babes and juves are packing on weight within two feedings off of them.

I thought about lobsters but I was discouraged by the climbing.

The dubias just seemed to be the best all around. Slow, clean, non climbing or flying, no smell, breed well, and good meat to shell ratio.

I may get some hissers as pets soon though..

Bleh, I don't think I'd ever feed a roach to my geckos. I scream just at the sight of one.

I don't actually feed my roaches to the geckos, they get fed to the sugar gliders and for that reason I just went with the big hissers. They get chopped in half, and the gliders love them, as gross as it sounds.

How small are the Dubia babies? I can't stand the thought of a roach infestation so there's no way that I could keep something that can climb well and move fast. The hissers are gross enough, lol.

I just sold my colony of dubia roaches because they grossed me out so much. The geckos liked them, I just couldn't get past my own issues with them. Uck. :main_no: They were easy to keep, though.

what places online would be good to get rusty reds roaches? i think i will try them...

i have dubia roaches...but two of my females had abortion and died.. so i got two females and one male left... the others i fed them to my bearded dragon...This is my first time raising roaches...i read instructions on how to raise them... it sounds pretty easy...it is a tad harder than i though cause my success rate with them is very low... i thought it would be simple like crickets or mealworms...okay really mealworms was not that easy but my success rate was higher...

I went with the lobsters. I HATE them but all my babies seem to like them. My beardie loves them and they have been easy to breed. The lady at the dollar store looked at me funny when I bought 5 containers of vasoline ( I DO NOT want those things loose in my house) but other then that there hasn't been any problems with keeping them.

I can't stand roaches either, that is why my husband handles them.
We have dubia and discoids. Our geckos fight over the dubia, but not the discoid. Plus the dubia are breeding easier for us.

I go for dubia. They can't climb even the sides of the feeding dish. They are easy to breed to. They give birth to live nymphs, perfect size for hatchlings. I also find them easy to gut load, and more calcium powder sticks on their bodies when I dust them.

Im using lobsters right now. They breed wicked fast, to a point where I need to sell some off or give some away soon, instead of just freezing them or what not.
