arent the first two venomous snakes??? I would go with the indigo just for the fact its a non-venomous snake... Why would you want to hold a a venomous snake :main_huh:

Hehe.....cuz i'm a crazy mofo ;) hahahaha

The first 2 (FWC & Mangrove) are both mildly venomous and rear-fanged. Neither venom is deadly, reported bites have resulted in swelling, moderate pain that goes away after a few days....nothing too big of a deal. I actually do want a Copperhead one of these days too, but that will be a strictly "hands off" pet.

My only issue with getting an Indigo is b/c they're a protected species it might be a pain in the ass finding a captive-bred hatchling, and i might need a license to even keep it. They're really beautiful, i hope that someone is out there breeding them.

Does anyone happen to know of someone breeding Indigo's?

It's come down to a FWC & an Indigo.....odds are i'll go FWC b/c they're easier to find & cost a lot less but wouldn't mind at least seeing if there are breeders around.

They really are, but damn those prices! lol.

Also, since they're native to Georgia i'm not sure if i can....we're banned from keeping local herps:(

I THINK you might be able to with a permit..but Indigos are so protected, I'm not sure.

I mean, the corn snake law is ridiculous...even if they're obviously captive bred you have to have a license to own one. (I know you know, I just think it's so silly that we have that law, ugh)

Off topic, but you're basically my neighbor. *Waves from Sandy Springs*

I probly could but i would have to jump some major hoops & throw down a decent amount of cash to pull it off, probly not an option really but we'll see.

Totally agree with you about the law, it's just plain stupid. Georgia makes no damn sense when it comes to legislation (or anything else it seems). I might end up having to go into the woods to get what i want lol hahaha j/k.

LMAO Hahaha yep! Only a stones throw away from each other. *Waves back & shoots up a signal flare from Alpharetta* Speaking of our location, we need some more reptile oriented stuff in the area.....there's nothing but big name pet stores unless u wanna drive a million miles into the booneys.

I know, I hate the big box stores with a passion. I try to stock up when Repticon rolls around! There was a Reptile World place in ..Doraville I think, but it's been closed for a while now. And Wildside Exotics is up in Oakwood, but I think they changed ownership recently?

Yeah i do the same thing but i like to browse around & look at critters and such but the big names have the same old crap everytime. I feel like i remember hearing Wildside changed but i can't be sure. I miss AHP Exotics....

If you were to get one I would say get a False Water Cobra, Wes Pollock(posts as Wilomn on GF) has amazing Hypos and Super Hypo FWC's!

I really don't think you'd be able to get an Indigo Snake. They're highly protected and for good reason. I think you need to be part of a state or private agency with an education permit to own one. I could be wrong about the laws, but in general I don't like the idea of keeping endangered species in a private collection, unless that private collection is working with a zoo or conservation effort to directly help the species in the wild. In some cases it might be warranted, but most of the time I think it encourages poaching (don't get me started into some of the nightmares we've faced with Diamondback Terrapins and Bog Turtles).

I vote for anything else other than Indigo or other protected snake. They're too precious to me. ^_^

But, before anyone jumps down my throat too badly for climbing on my wildlife biologist soapbox, yes, I think the corn snake law in Georgia is really ridiculous, but I suppose they have it in place because it's easy to enforce.

One of the veterinary nurses I used to work with has a GORGEOUS Indigo...it is captive bred & one of the most beautiful snakes I have ever laid my eyes on. And I do remember him mentioning that he had to get a permit for it...but i'd imagine that wouldn't be TOO too difficult. If you want, I can send him a message & ask him about his breeder....

Without a doubt, i'd go with the Indigo...

I don't know about the new ownership but that is where I picked up my gecko...they have a great selection of snakes and they all look very healthy. The people there are very helpful and they seem to know what they are talking about. Way better prices as well. My girlfriend and I go there often for crickets and anything else we need. I would recommend them over any of the big stores for anything herp related.
