When should I start to worry?

I think that pretty much everyone knows I received my gecko last week on Tuesday, because I can't stop talking about her. Anyway this is my problem I worry a lot and having had a gecko that stopped eating right before she died makes me even more paranoid.

Tomorrow will make a week that I've had my gecko and she hasn't eaten a thing, which I can understand but then again she hasn't used the bathroom I havn't seen a urate. She probably emptied her tank while on the trip since there were like 5 poopies in the deli cup and it seems like she was put upside down since there was some on her back and tail.

She's in a 10gallon tank with 3hides. Her Humid hide is misted twice a day and water is changed morning. I've also been leaving two mealworms in a dish that have been gutloaded (I change them everyday so she gets the ones that have been gutloaded for 24hrs.) Using Oatmeal, Carrots and Potato as gutload and they're dusted with Calcium Plus. I'm also getting some roaches whose movement I hope will grab her attention. My house is like 70ish-75ish and her warm side as been jumping lately since the freaking cat chewed the rhethostat, from 88-91! But I've used some extra paper towels to buffer it incase it gets to warm. She sleeps all day and comes out the minute I turn off the light or dim it down, today she was actually stuck her head out during the day for a little while.

With all this said everyone has said give her a week. Well the week is approaching and me being me, I'm getting worried. Does she seem normal or is there anything I should worry about or what are some signs that I should look out for, just incase?

It is common for Leos to not eat for a few days after they are shipped. Do you know what it was being fed before? Try gutloaded crickets. My leos seem to love the thrill of the chase. I've had hatchlings eat tiny crickets on their first day, even before their first shed. Crickets can be annoying though.

It could be totally normal. Some geckos take longer to settle in than others. Some start eating right away, some take a few weeks. How old/big is she?

When I got my SS male last year he didn't eat or poop for 2 weeks. He's fine and hungry now. It just may take a little more time. Keep offering her food.

Liz there is no need to worry. Sometimes it takes two weeks for the to start eating. The only thing I can think do to different is to place more mealworms in the bowl. The extra movement might attract her more, and make her start eating.

Ken, she was eating crickets and mealworms when I shipped her out.

Mel, here is what I have on here:
Weight: 37 grams (10/21/08)
Hatch Date: 5/25/07

Obviously I posted this WAY to early.. I was cleaning out her mealie dish and one dropped into the tank and IT WAS GONE. She's eaten 17 but I have to feed them one by one. Obviously I need a different feeding dish something clear! She almost went after my finger, LOL.. Oh jesus I feel relief! Now got look out for the poop!

That's good to hear.

Even if she wasn't eating, I wouldn't worry. One of my geckos refused to eat for almost a month!

What I've been told on the matter is that - As long as they're pooing and haven't lost weight - it shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Ok after like 23 mealies my hand got tired and I need to start getting ready for bed so I stopped but it seems that if I continued she would keep eating. I'm trying to find a clear glass ash tray I had incase she gets hungry through out the night. Tomorrow when I come back from class I'll feed again and see how it goes.

i thought kiki would never learn to eat out of her dish. i was about to buy her a clear one, and that very same day she learned where the mealies were hiding :) now i know when she's ready for dinner because i'll look up and find her hunching over the dish waiting for one to appear :)

Luckily for her it was raining mealworms! She's looking for more if only she would wander into the dish that would be great!

i think that's how it worked for kiki. she wandered around until she found some. i tried to show her by dropping some around the outside of her dish to encourage her to look just a little farther. and one day, she did!

I wish I would have taken pictures because she follows the things around the entire tank then stand over them and cocks her head then strikes, Lol. It was hilarious. A few times she went for the paper in the humid hide since the worm was right under it then she hit her head on the dish because one was slithering right next to it. At one point a mealie was in back of the toilet paper roll and she drove into it and caught it out the other end. Poor thing was probably starving but hadn't noticed the mealworm dish.

The first time I showed her a mealie she walked up to it, licked it then stepped on it and walked away, Lol

my Newton has not graped the whole bowl concept yet either. I will put some mealies in her bowl, and 4 hours later, they are still all there, but Newton is running all over for the ones i am holding. i think she is a little spoiled. She has also learned that if she jut sticks her head out of her hide, i will drop mealies in front of her and she doesn't even have to get out. it's like breakfast in bed!! haha. now i make her get at least a little excercise

My leopard that I got a week or two ago, eats like 15 mealworms a night. He seems like he'd eat more If I let him. He eats no matter whats on it, vitamins, calcium, or calcium w/d3.

The moment I take off the screen top, hes out of his hide and looks into the food dish =).

Time to Eat

Geckos are funny eaters.

Some want to eat out of a dish and others want to be hand fed.

Some will eat right away and others do not eat for a few days.

But, when they want to eat they will look for you to come to the table.
