Who's producing the normals?

Anybody have normal projects going? We do it with subspecies, but I don't generally see breeders working with normals as anything but a stepping stone to another morph. I'd like to see more of them around. They aren't even in pet stores anymore. I just see the super hypos and Trempers around. Occasionally a patty. Never a normal.

I'm not talking hypos, or high yellows, or tangs. I'm talking the spotty black/brown and tan geckos that started it all. I had one back when I first got into these guys. If I knew what a gem she was at the time, I'd have held onto her.

So who's working with them now? Anybody?

Along that line. Do leo's still get imported? I don't recall but it seems like they are hard to get.

Yep, but it's hella expensive. You need a health clearance, customs clearance, etc...it's a huge pain. I was going to bring some back with me when I visited Europe this summer, but I couldn't afford it.

actually you can not import WC Leopard geckos anymore. You can import F1's but nothing straight from the bush. Importation isn't that bad as long as you get in with a group of people that are looking for stuff overseas.

Not exactly normal, but I'm pairing my snow girl with my high-yellow boy this year. The babies should have quite some spots.

So wild caughts are taken to europe bred and then those imported here. How long has it been since wc could be brought into the US? How expensive is hella expensive? LOL

Wild caughts are generally in Europe to begin with (or are Pakistan and Afghanistan also in Asia?) Anyway, laws seem to be a little more lax between most country borders there than from there to overseas.

Hella expensive = http://www.shipreptiles.com/fees.html

From Steve Sykes' website, Geckosetc.com, under "Wild Caught Leopard Geckos"

"The geckos posted on this page were not collected from the wild, however they are the captive bred offspring from a wild caught bloodline of leopard geckos. In 2006 we imported a group of captive bred leopard geckos from Europe that were offspring from parents that were originally wild caught in Pakistan. Imports of wild caught leopard geckos into the US were stopped in 2002, but it is legal to import captive bred offspring from a wild caught bloodline. The geckos offered below are F2 offspring from wild caughts (their grandparents were captured in the wild) and represent a completely new bloodline of leopard geckos that is not related to any other leopard geckos in the US. They are very useful for outcrossing, or provide a clean genetic slate (i.e. not het for albino, not carrying jungle genes, etc.) for proving out the genetics of a potential new trait."

I have one Normal female..not sure of hets yet as her two babies that hatched from her are still young..I do however have a high yellow i could breed with her but that may cause the babies to be more yellow then the brown she has right now..i could however breed one of her babies to her from last year if one is a boy and see what we get..I had origionally planned to breed her with a SS without hets this coming year but idk whatcha think?

Depends on your goal. A normal without hets is a really great blank slate to use to breed to anyone. BUT, since I'm interested in having a line of normals, I'd find a good normal male without hets and have them be lifelong buddies lol.
