If it was not for my granddaughter who wanted a Reptile I would have never thought to own a Gecko. What I found after we went looking for a Bearded Dragon was a Leopard Gecko is an excellent pet / reptile and very good as a first for young people.

They don't get extremely large.
They can live in a 10 or 15 gal tank.
They are easy to feed and maintain with the basics
They do have personality traits...... that surprised me. For one they like to watch you. The other is you find yourself talking to them. This still cracks my wife up...lol.
They come in a vast variety of colors and patterns. This will get a collector "hooked"!
They live a long time, unlike a hamster or fish you find floating upside down....lol.

they like to watch you, now that's a great observation I hadn't thought of. I'm not sure what attracts me about these reptiles but they really do attract me. I had green iguanas when I was younger but it wasn't til I was 50 that the leo caught my eye while I was looking for a bearded dragon. Now I'm breeding and trying to learn about genetics and all, it makes a great hobby/ job when I retire.)

If I were a motion picture director/creative writer, the first reptile I'd make a movie about is the leopard gecko, before anything else. Their eyes, stance, gait, and general form/colors would make them a completely unmistakable sight in a theatre.

1. They're the cutest creatures alive
2. i like their personalities.

;)

i never really wanted a bunny or hamster, i always wanted a lizard or something. Like, in third grade, i kept on bugging my dad for one. My excuse was, "if i took care of a catapillar until it was a moth, why can't i take care of a lizard??"

i feel supid XP

I love how they use only a corner of their enclosure to defecate in. It makes clean up so easy. I've never had a pet that was so easy to clean up after. I also love their little personalities.
