Will the price of Enigmas drop?

I was wondering if people thought that the price of Enigmas would drop after enough outcrossing was done and more and more people started to breed enigma x enigma and it became easier to make more Enigmas.

I find it hard to believe that Enigma prices can go much lower since some breeders are selling them at shows for $20-50. Also, Enigma x enigma breedings are not necessarily a good idea.

I know they aren't a good idea and I definitely don't feel comfortable doing it now. I guess your right though......they have already dropped as low as they can.

I just dont understand why people are doing this? What in the world is the reason for pricing them WAY less they they are worth. Is it because too many people are working with them? Personally I would rather keep an animal than sell it lower then its worth!!

I think it depends on the enigma morph too. Obviously bell enigmas and het bell are low because they were the first to be on the scene. But i agree the prices went down quick, and the reality, sad but true, is a bell enigmas top price is now probably $100-$125(depending on color). I think part of the issue is when making these combo morphs alot of byproduct morphs are made, many of which are enigma, and then the surplus is made. It was only a matter of time that a dominant morph would drop, but they did go quick, maybe the economy plays a role ?

I hate to see the prices drop but it comes down to supply and demand. I think the Enigmas will hold decent prices for exceptional line bred Leos.

I think any morph with a dominant trait will be like a shooting star and history has proved in the past that recessive traits hold value longer EX. patternless fatties.

the problem is that enigmas were the first dominaint morph to hit the leo market. so meny people are soo upset because they arent used to this. i have a hand in the entire reptile market. any morph that doesnt have a super form is going to drop. especially when leopard geckos can breed at 7 months old. i seen that drop coming 2 years ago and anyone here can ask any member that i hang out with. there was a reason i didnt get my own till last year. exactly what thad said, recessive traits hold their value. i would hate to see what some of the memebers here would do if they invested in a pastel or spider ball python

I will add though. Breed the best stock and do not worry about what others price the low end stuff. Cuas when it comes down to it. Mass produce lower quality you can only sell for low. Produce high quality and great looking animals. Then price becomes a second thought

I think prices should reflect the animal in itself. I have said this before. There are 100.00 enigmas and there are 500.00 enimgas. IMO it matters on the line and the look.

Lets say you are going after high percent carrot tail. you will give more for a 60% carrot tail then you would a 30% carrot tail. Now both are carrot tail right? But the value is defferent.

Lets say a breeder is producing some really nice snow bell enigmas and they are in the top 5% you have ever seen but then breeder B has snow bell enigmas but he tossed any female in to produce the genes he wanted. Which would you buy to put into your projects. The anything put together just to get the combo or the one that selected the best of the best to breed together.

If all species in the reptile world would take on this way WOW... Some would breed ok stuff others would produce AWESOME STUFF.

there is one thing that everyone is missing. everything on earth is only worth what someone is willing to pay for something. you may have an enigma that you feel is worth 500... but that doesnt mean its worth that to everyone else. that is one of the factors of suply and demand. when i used to trade baseball cards i remember seeing a card at every show at the same guys table and he was asking 1500 for it. i seen it for years. then one time i seen it for 1000, then 800, then 600. so with that being said no matter what anyone told that guy the card was worth it was obviously only worth 600. so no matter how much everyone thinks an enigma should go for, if customers are only willing to pay so much, you will obviously need to lower your prices. this is after all a reptile MARKET. you can have the nicest animals on earth, but if people dont want to buy them, well then you have to lower the prices.

They are at a good price right now. They used to be over $2000.00 for a nice one. Also, IMO there are too many out there, that's why we aren't making any and a lot of people don't want to breed them anymore because the market is already flooded.
