Yesterday I purchased the zoo-med 30-40 gal uth for my 30 gal long aquarium.
Do you have to stick the uth to the bottom or can you leave the paper on it and tape it there for easy removal?

I also plan on using tile for my substrate for ease of cleaning. Will the heat go through the glass and tile or is that too much?

You are supposed to remove the paper, im not sure what will happen if you dont but i wouldnt suggest doing it. As long as you have some sort of a thermostat attached to your uth it wount get too hot.

Yea you will definately need one so you can make sure its not too hot or cold and i would suggest getting a digital thermometer because they are alto more accurate than just regular ones. You can get one for like $8 at reptilesupply.com

I leave the paper on and it's not a problem. If you take it off, you can always peel the UTH off the tank if you want to use it somewhere else and then just tape it onto the new place. It works well with ceramic tile.

I leave the paper on because it makes cleaning the tank easier not having to deal with the UTH stuck to the bottom. They can be hard to remove. I prop mine up to sit closer to the tank with whatever I'm using to prop the tank up- typically a piece of tile.

Hmmm... You might be able to purchase heat tape, leave the paper on uth, and tape the uth to the bottom.( it might make it easier to remove the uth whenever you need to)
Not sure though just an idea!
