Is it possible? My boyfriend is bound and determined that the show he saw on tv was real. There was a 20 foot 300 pound boa constrictor in Florida.

I was under the impression that 20 feed boas weighed about 150 pounds on average.

I've seen this said before, but I've also seen it labeled as a hoax.

He said it was a constrictor.

I've heard hoaxes, but nothing that was real.

It's from when Hurricane Andrew destroyed many pet stores and the snakes are now breeding and thriving in Florida.

boas and pythons are both constrictors. question. is it a boa constrictor ssp., anaconda or burm , retic or rock python?

a 300 lb snake is quite possible...

there was actually a show on discovery or nat geo just this morning about a WC burmese in florida that was over 20 feet long and weighed over 300 lbs. the show actually showed her stretched out next to the guy. probably the same show he was talking about, but she's alive and well

a Burmese can get that large but i dont think any boa constrictor ssp. can get that big unless somewhere i have missed a 300lb one

agree, i think he was watching the same show i was, and it was a burmese they were showing. and it was freed during a hurricane from a reptile storage facility, along with hundreds of other reptiles that have invaded the everglades now. scientists have pretty much debunked the "people letting pets go" theory about the "wild" snakes now in florida.

It is tremendously unlikely.

Real monster boa constrictors, huge mutant females... fourteen, fifteen feet or so. And substantially thinner, even though the big ones do get thicker proportions than juveniles of the same species.

In person? Twelve and a half, maybe thirteen (maybe, I'd say twelve and a half was more likely but we kept getting different results when measuring). Gets tougher to measure them when they're bigger around than my arm without having five people wrestle them straight. We alternated between trying to get her to straighten out against a wall with 1' x 1' floor tiles and running a piece of string along her spine, then measuring that.

She was a twenty year old BCI and seemed astoundingly large. Next biggest I have seen were a couple around eleven feet and even they seemed abnormal. Eight is a hell of a lot more common.

I find the idea of a 300 lb boa constrictor highly unlikely. Boas spend a lot of time in trees, and heavy bodies don't mesh well with that. Now a 300lb anaconda or python(burmese, retic or afroc) is much more likely.

He said it was a boa. Said they killed it. It was 20 feet and 300 pounds. Found in Florida. He said it was one of those that got released from hurricane Andrew about 10+ years ago.

I have seen articles about this, but I've also seen where most have disproven 300 pound snakes.
most things I've read have said 150 on average for an anaconda. *shrugs*

Oh and he said 4 guys held the snake

Consider the source. Nat Geo is in bed with HSUS. Do the research, you'll see.

I have a hard time believing any snake could weigh 300lbs, without proof. With all the controversy out there, I tend to belive this was an exaggeration...kinda like..."I caught a fish THIS big"
