OK, so I have been doing some research on what to feed my geckos. I was mainly feeding them crickets, but now I am starting not to like crickets cause they make to much noise and sometimes stink. One time I happen to leave one or two in the tank and one happen to be pregnant and decided to have babies in my humid hide and had like 50 tiny lil things bouncing all over the place.. not cool. lol

I know there is a few polls and other threads but I wanted to see if people use different type of worms or mainly meal worms.. so I made this poll with some I have been looking at on some online stores. Pheonix worms and Butterworms seem to have really high calcium so isnt that good for them ? While wax worms and super worms seem to be fatty. So what worms do the job the best!? And then ive seen a lot use roaches but I believe in my case they dont sell Roaches in Florida.

If you use something other than any of that mentioned please throw down a post and share :main_thumbsup:

Same here I want to try those Phoenixworms next, I tried some superworms last night and they eat those but then I read that they are super fatty? Cant you just feed them less of them? they are way bigger than a mealworm. I read that phoenix worms are really good anyone use them? They are a bit pricy but if they are really good I dont mind spending a few dollars more on my geckos.

There are two types of roaches that can be sold in florida I believe. If you scroll down a little or on the next page you should find Snakegirls thread about FL and Roaches.

Leo's can eat an assortment of roaches not just dubias.

I personally feed Mealworms but I find them pretty annoying and hate crickets so I'm trying to breed my own Dubia's but it's only been a few days since I got them, lol.

I've seen a few nutritional charts and many of them show that Silkworms and roaches are the best feeders but many try and suggest that feeding a leo a varied diet with a little bit of this and that is best.

I use phoneix worms and my geckos love them. Plus they are high in calcium and nutrients.

On a worm diet.. Is it better to feed leopard geckos daily? or every other day? or can you have a small dish with a few worms in there constantly?

Yep, in fact, that's the way I do it. They eat when they're hungry. I usually try and switch out the uneaten worms every day though so I know they're properly gutloaded

what would be the best type of dish to have worms in and that they can not get out?

A smooth-sided dish like a peanut butter jar cap...or a lipped dish--they sell "mealworm dishes" for like...$20 or something at *****..I have one of those..it works well but is a little on the expensive side. Tall, smooth lids work just as well

Can you keep mealworms and superworms together, or will the super eat the mealies?

So far more people voted on waxworms, maybe I should give those a try too. They seem a lot smaller than superworms are they just as filling? or they need to eat a lot more waxworms to compare to a few superworms.

In an ideal situation, the best diet would be a variety of everything you have listed. In the wild, they eat many different things. I do have some picky girls that only eat mealies, however, the rest of them I try and give them something different every time.

People likely chose waxworms because leos seem to absolutely love them.

But they're the nutritional equivelant to chocolate cake lol. If you're going to feed your leos waxies, they should definitely not be the staple food..maybe a once-a-month treat or something.

Im pretty new to leopard geckos and have read on all the different worms you can feed them. Phoenix worms seem to have high calcium, and leopard geckos need calcium as part of their diet. So my question is why doesnt that many people use them? Do they not like them as much as a mealworm or waxworm?

We feed a variety of crickets, mealies and supers. The gravid girls and juvies have a bowl of mealies 24/7. We feed crickets every other day. If they didn't eat their crickets then we try a super. Some will eat whatever is put in their tub. Some will go through moods where they will eat one bug, then something different.

Well from the reviews I've read peoples geckos don't seem to enjoy them but then again every gecko is different. People have also complained about some type of smell and a slim, I duno. I can't say for certain because I've never used them. And while Geckos need calcium it isn't the only thing they need, just keep that in mind when looking for feeders.

Now I have a question of my own;
Um for anybody that has the answer. I once read that phoenix worms were produced in a lab to have the right calcium: phosphorus levels. Is that true?
